If you spend a lot of time to type on your Mac, then you give it on yourself to make life as easy as possible. There is no better way to do this to learn how to enter, edit and manipulate the text as efficiently as possible.

You will be surprised how soon you pick up these tricks, when you take them into memory. Before a long time, you will kill the keyboard shortcut and use timely workflow without a second idea.

    Rotate the text quickly

It is important to be able to move forward efficiently around a body of the text. Its basis is to use arrow keys to move the cursor, some you (hope) are already doing.

But throw some modifier keys there and you can proceed even more quickly. Using the option key can jump the whole words or paragraphs. So the option+left arrow will take your cursor to the left, while the option+down arrow will take your cursor to the very end of the current paragraph. Want to remove a word at a time? Use option+delete.

Use the command to jump even at the distance ahead. The command+right arrow will take your cursor to the very end of the current line, while the command+up arrow will take you to the top of the document. Want to remove everything on the left side of the cursor? Try command+delete.

    Select the text quickly

On their own, these navigation tips are useful but not game-changing. Fortunately, you can throw the shift key there and use them quickly to select the texts of the text to copy, format or remove.

As an example, the option+shift+will select the word on the left side of the left arrow cursor, while the command+shift+right arrow will choose everything on the line on the right side of your cursor.

The shift also works with plain old arrow keys to choose a character at a time.

    Set lesson replacement

Do you often type repeated words or phrases that you want to abbreviate? Text replacement is a time-sending trick that you can use to replace a typed word for something else. For example, when I type “@@” on my keyboard, my Mac replaces the text with my full email address.

    Text replacement on Macos.

I initially set it on my iPhone to make it easier for long -term phrases such as email addresses, but thanks to iCloud sinks these changes among equipment.

To start, head to System Settings> General> Keyboard> Text Replacement … and use the “+” plus button to add your own. Under “Field Type Out” with “Field Tiger phrases, such as” GLHF “and” Good Luck Have Fun “, under” Field Type Out “, then hit OK.

    Paste and match style

By default, the lesson will attach to its formatting. So if you copy text from a web page and paste it in a page processor like page, then the text will be pasted with font, color and formatting. This is particularly annoying because you need to clean the text by matching the formatting.

To solve the problem, the style paste and match style using the option+command+shift+V keyboard shortcut (also known as plain text in some contexts). You can also use it in some apps to avoid changing an URL automatically into clickable links (I do this in Ulysses Markdowne Editor at all times).

Why should you write everything in Markdown

Markdown is an easy——after language that works readable, versatile and anywhere (almost).

    Use clipboard manager

To be able to remember lessons and other objects, which you have copied to the first clipboard, is a superpower that prevents you from looking at the same information twice. Apple Macos does not include this functionality, but it is easy to add by using a third party app.

There is a free and open source option MacasiBecause the source code of the app is on Github to see anyone, the transparency of the developer lends a degree of trust to the product. In this way you know that the app is not capturing the contents of your clipboard and doing something with it.

Once installed, you can use the command+Shift+C Default Keyboard Shortcut to bring a list of your final copied items. Use arrow keys to select one, then hit the entry to commit to your clipboard. Now you can paste it normally. The app can be adapted to automatically paste or if you strip rather formatting.

You can also pin items, which is very good if you often need to paste things like full address or boilerplate text.

    Paste from other apple devices

Something that can save you a lot of time, especially if you find yourself using another MAC or iPhone, have the ability to paste between the equipment. As long as the devices share an Apple account, “bus work” should be done, you have a handoff, and are capable of both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices.

You can see that the system settings on a MAC are enabled under the Settings> General> Handoff and Airplay (and Settings> General> Airplay and continuity on an iPhone or iPad). Note that you will experience a little delay while pasting sometimes.

Apple created a form of optical character recognition (OCR) in MACOS and iOS, allowing you to recognize and extract the text from images. You can use it in the operating system in apps like safari, preview and photos. Just find an image that has text, until it turns into a cursor, put your pointer on the text, and click to select and drag.

With the selected text, you can copy it using the general command+C keyboard shortcut and then paste it wherever you want.

“Live Text” is the best iPhone and Mac feature that you are not using

Remove from your camera or photo text that you can paste anywhere!

Since it also works on iPhone and iPad, you can use your device camera to easily capture the text on your Mac. To do this, open the camera app and indicate your camera that whatever you want to copy. After a moment, your iPhone should identify that the image has a text and shows the “live text” icon in the lower-right corner of the visible.

Tap on the icon and the text will be separated. Now you can tap and drag to select the text as a web page or other document. Use “Copy” to copy the text on your clipboard, then use the universal clipboard feature to paste the text on your MAC.

You can definitely snap some images with your iPhone and do it in this way, just remember to remove the photo when you don’t need them.

This feature is perfect to quote or refer to books and other printed materials without finding digital copy. Just make sure that you re -examine for any errors, especially if the page has dazzling or folds.

    Search quickly and enter emoji

Apple’s emoji picker is useful, but is an efficient way to use it that does not include a mouse cursor or scrolling through an endless list. First of all, make sure that you hit the FN+E keyboard shortcut to bring it up quickly (sometimes, it is not enough to kill FN key).

Insert a dog emoji on Macos.

With the opening of the picker, type what you are looking at immediately. Be specific, and will reduce the picker choice (and even the custom genmosy will be brought that you have created). Kill the down arrows and then use arrow keys to take the emoji you want to see, then the return key to insert it.

    Learn useful shortcuts

Text editing is a stunning number of shortcuts that you can use on your Mac, although not all of them will be useful for all. For example, you can use FN+delete to add Windows-style “forward deleted” feature in your Mac, or use control+O to insert a new line under the cursor.

Look at our entire list of Mac Text-Additing Keyboard Shortcut and pay attention to those who are most useful for you. This will make some efforts to learn them and put them into action, but they eventually become another nature.

35+ Mac Text-Editing Keyboard to speed up shortcut typing

Using keyboard shortcuts can speed up any writing or editing functions on your Mac. We are the most listed of them, and we also show you how to make your own!

As long as you know where they are, it is surprising to type special characters on the Mac keyboard. For example, you can type the degree symbol (º) using the option +0, € symbol using the option+shift +2, and the £ symbol using the option +3 (based on your keyboard layout). I know this because I use them all the time, so I tried a little in learning them.

To see what is hidden under which combination of modifier keys, go to system settings> accessibility> keyboard and enable “accessibility keyboard” to display keyboard overlays. Now you can catch a modifier such as shifts, options and FN (and its combination) for future use.

    Use Apple’s best-in-class dictation feature

The best way to speed up your typing is to type. Hit F5 on your keyboard to enter the dictation mode, during which you can speak loudly and your Mac will translate your words into a text tied. Since most of us can speak fast, because we can type, determine the text is a very fast way to work (as long as your brain can keep up).

Not working dictation? Go to the System Settings> Keyboard and togle “dictation”.

It is best suited for casual use, such as when composing an email to a friend or responding to a quick message. The good news is that you can type and dictate at the same time. Using your keyboard when dictation mode is activated will not disable it, so you are free and free to improve and then start speaking again.

You can also use the same dictation facility on iPhone and iPad.

I will conclude with another small tip: disable autocorcts on your Mac. For some reason, Apple enables it by default and while it is a useful feature on touchscreen devices, this is something that will disappoint you quickly on Mac. Under the system settings> keyboard, using “edit” button next to “input sources” and disable the spelling and punctuation correction options.
