    The dock, a iconic Mac feature, is used as a hub to launch apps, to launch, switch between them and to display the major apps and at least Windows during opening. By default, the dock has a clean look and contains some apps that your computer feels that you want to use. However, you can get a lot from customizing your dock, such as removing the icon for default Apple apps that you do not use. You can also change its placement and its look. Here you need to do so much, as well as a little extra.

    Remove apps that you are not going to use

    You should remove the apps and start your dock twics which you are never going to use. To remove an app from your dock, right-click and choose Option> Remove from DockYou can also ensure apps that are temporarily in the dock (which appear to the right of the dock, next to a separat) by right-clicking and selecting them and stay there. Options> Keep in the dock,

    Transfer apps to make them easier to access

    Your next step should be to re -organize your dock apps, which is simple as you want them to pull their icons. Note, however, if you accidentally leave an icon outside the dock, it will be removed from your dock and you have to add it again.

    Change the size of the dock

    You can also accommodate the size of your dock. Hover your mouse cursor to any divider (those vertical partition lines) of your dock. The cursor will turn into an arrow that indicates up and down. To make the dock larger, pull it towards the top of the screen or pull it down to make it small.

    Alternatively, you are going and going on Apple logo in the top-left corner of your Mac screen. System Settings> Desktop and Dock And running size Slider.

    Change the position of the dock

    The dock can be taken on both sides of your screen, saving you valuable real estate. To replace this, right-click on any empty area in the dock and select the situation on the screen. Choose left or right to align your dock vertically in your selected position. The center will place it back to the default place.

    This option is also available System Settings> Desktop & Dock> Status on screen,

    Some of us prefer to have a clean scope, and if you are, you can auto-hide the dock when it is not in use. This will not go completely, but it will only be visible when you move the cursor to its place. It is also a good feature for people with limited screen space. Go and enable this facility System Settings> Desktop & Dock> Automatically hide and show the dockAlternatively, you can use keyboard shortcuts Command-option-d To turn on and off this setting.

    Remove the apps recently opened from the dock

    On the right side of your dock will show your most recently opened apps. If it makes you angry, you can go and disable the settings System Settings> Desktop and Dock And disabled The show suggested and apps recentlyI like this feature, to help me navigate usually used apps, but if you are low on screen space, it can be useful.

    Take the minimum Windows in the app icon

    Whenever you reduce the apps on your Mac, each window appears as a separate icon on the dock. This can cause the dock to fill it rapidly, automatically shorten it. If you avoid it instead, Macos allows you to reduce Windows directly in the appropriate app icon instead. Just go System Settings> Desktop and Dock And select Spread Windows in the application iconTo access a window which is minimized in the app icon, right-click it.

    Hide indicators for open apps

    If an app is open on your Mac, a small dot will appear near your icon on the dock. If you want, you can remove these open app indicators. Go System Settings> Desktop and Dock And disable Show indicators for open applications,

    Customize icon’s magnification

    When you move your cursor near any app icon on your Mac dock, it will automatically grow. You can change the level of this magnification effect, or disable it completely System Settings> Desktop and Dock,

    To enable or disable the increased icon, use the slider below EnhancementTaking the slider in all ways in the left way, closing the magnification, while taking it elsewhere will adjust the magnification size. Fun Tip: If you have this feature disabled, you can temporarily activate it by shift + control.

    Add folder to dock

    An application folder in Mac's dock.

    You can add a browsable folder to your Mac doc, until the folder is in the favorite bar in the finder. Open the finder and find out the folder you want to add and pull it into the preferred bar in the left pane. Right-click on any folder in favorite bar Add to the dock,

    Here’s the fun part is: You can use this trick to group a bunch of apps in a single dock icon, which is very good when you have some apps that you want to keep in the dock, but you don’t need them every single day. The trick is to go to the application folder and take the apps to a new folder. Just give a name to the folder, move it to the favorite bar, and add it to the dock. you’re all set!

    What do you think so far?

    Add spacers to the dock

    You can go slightly ahead of options adding Macos and some spacer, or blank spaces to add some spacer, or empty space to your dock to help you organize it. You can use these spaces for aesthetics or do similar apps in group. To do this, you have to use your Mac terminal. Press Commanding placesearch for TerminalAnd open the app. Then, paste and run the following command to add a full -sized spacer to the dock.

    defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-apps -array-add '{tile-data={}; tile-type="spacer-tile";}' && killall Dock

    If you want a small spacer, use this command instead.

    defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-apps -array-add '{"tile-type"="small-spacer-tile";}' && killall Dock

    For more than one spacer, simply run your chosen command. The good news is that this is the only time when you will need a terminal. Once you have your own spacer, just pull around your position to turn around, or leave it outside the dock to remove it.

    Change app icon to make the dock more visually pleasing

    You can also customize the dock by changing different app icons. This can make it more enjoyable or help it fit a particular subject. The best way to do this is to open your favorite app and see if they let you change your app icon. If not, look at my guide about changing the Macos app icon, which exposes both a built-in method and a third-party app that makes it easy to change the app icon. For alternative icons, there is a good resource Macosicons.com,

    Use third-party apps to reach Hidden Dock Settings

    Your Mac does not always make it easy to find everything you can do with it. Sometimes, you need to run some terminal commands to reach hidden features (such as spacers I just highlighted), and yet, some features are not user-accessible. For more control, consider trying Mac apps that unlock these hidden characteristics for you, such as Tinker (Free) or Highly effective ($ 11). I have previously written about Tinkerchtool, and my colleague silent reader has covered the supercharge. Both apps have some useful options to get your docks tweezed, such as the ability to remove the delay before Macos reveals your hidden dock, or reduces the icon of hidden apps.

    Tinkertool also makes it easier to add the spassor to the dock, and it also allows you to lock the dock, so that the status of the icons and the spacers cannot be changed. Meanwhile, the supercharge has a feature that opens a dock folder in the finder, rather than showing its content in the dock directly.

    Use a dedicated dock adaptation app

    If your goal is only to make the dock tweet and nothing, then you can do better service by a dedicated dock customization app. This type of app will allow you to make cosmetic and functional changes in the dock, but it will not be useful if you want other systemwide twics. There are two good examples Dockflow ($ 5.60) and Uber ($ 30). Dockflow lets you make a preset for your dock. You can think about it such as various profiles like work, gaming, education, social media, etc. For each of these presets, you can leave some apps in them and quickly switch between them. Meanwhile, Uber focuses on looking like Windows taskbar, which can be useful if you are pushing the operating system forward.
