There are some things that I just refuse to do my Mac – either on a desk or when they go. While I love my MacBook Pro, and use it daily to work, some tasks are improved from mobile.

From phone calls to playing games, here are nine things that I just refuse to sit on a desk and refrain from using my Mac at all costs.

9 things I refuse to do on my Mac

    Justin Duno / How-to Geek

I like the short-form video as the next person, and I definitely get sucked on my phone in infinite scroll. However, it is not just on my Mac.

I will open the reels or tickes that friends read me on their Mac, or even reach those services to see and answer DMS. I just don’t sucked in scroll on my Mac.

I think it is not just as fluid. The video looks strange (9:16 bus 16:10 does not look right on the display) and is not uninterrupted as scrolling. Clicking and stretching or using the keyboard is not just the same as swiping.

A person scrolls on the phone that shows boredom on his face.

    Call

I love how my iPhone, iPad, and Mac are integrated – why I love the Apple Ecosystem. One thing that I do not do, he takes a phone call on my Mac.

I can be a strange, but I only respond to the phone call (or location) from my real phone until I can really find it – and it never happens. I do not use my Apple Watch, iPad, or Mac to handle phone calls. It does not just look natural.

The same goes for video calls on facetime. While there are some exceptions to video calls, such as if I am training someone or meeting a work, for which I still need to sit, I hate making a video call from my Mac. I just like to roam while talking, and while walking and talking, holding MacBook Pro and talking is not just fun to me.

I do not care that the iOS phone app in Apple Macos 26 is incorporating the app, I will not use it.

    7

    Play games

Any man's sky is running on MacBook.

    Apple/Hello Games

While Macos is starting its change in an appropriate gaming platform, I don’t just look at my MacBook as a gaming machine (or do not use). Perhaps this is because I have grown old and stuck in my own way, have used McCos since 2012 when it supported very few sports.

I am not sure why I hate gaming on my Mac, but I can’t bring myself to do it. When I was very excited No man’s sky Was declared for MacosBecause I am a big fan of the notorious title of Hello Games. However, even on my M1 Max McBook Pro, the game goes very poorly.

For a short time, I was playing RunescapeA mmorpg that runs well on Mac. But even it was short -lived because the game simply moves better on Windows and destroyed the battery of my MacBook Pro. I have tried to go into gaming on my Mac – and I can’t simply.

    Browse my photo library

    Joe Fedwa / How-to Geek

As part of the Apple ecosystem, my iPhone photos and videos automatically sink for iCloud, which provides them in the photo app on my Mac. This is good, and I have used every time and when my phone is not nearby-but it’s not to go for me.

If I am looking for a specific picture, or even trying to get a picture to my Mac, nine out of 10 times, I use my iPhone to find pictures and then just aircrace it. For whatever reason, I just find easy to navigate the photo app on my iPhone – especially for the recent photos.

Even yesterday, I had to take a picture for a memory claim. I took a picture with my iPhone and then returned to my office, opened the photo app to get the picture, and found that it was not even after a few minutes. So, I just aircraft the photo from my iPhone and worked immediately.

    Manage my calendar

The imaginary Mac app displays a calendar in the scene of the year.

I know that many people see their Mac as a hub for productivity – in which I agree. However, when it comes to managing my calendar, I find it very easy to do it with my iPhone. I use fantastic On both my Mac and iPhone, the interfaces and purposes are almost identical. For some reason, however, I cannot get myself to check my calendar on my Mac.

If I am trying to find out if I have a certain day plan, even if I am on my desk using my Mac, I will grab my phone and open the fantasy. The iPhone seems to me just like a personal outfit device for me.

    Use maps to plan routes

Apple Maps on iPhone using offline directions

    Apple

When Maps came to McOS a decade ago, I felt that I would use it all the time. Not me. At a time, when I and my wife were planning a road trip, I used the map on my Mac for that help. But, this is the only time when I have actually used the Maps app on Mac.

If I am looking for information about a business, I will hit the Google Maps in Chrome and read, check the distance or track the phone number. My life is in Chrome anyway, so it is quite easy to open a new tab, to find a business to find a business+T, and then when I am doing the command+W to close the tab. To zoom the screen, pinch and scroll around a map just makes it more understandable for me on an iPhone (or even an iPad).

    Listen to audiiabooks

    Justin Duno / How-to Geek

In the beginning of 2025, I made a resolution to listen to more audiobooks. I am not really a reader, but I enjoy a good audibook (especially if it is fully manufactured with background sounds and music).

For example, I actually started my audibook server and used it to listen to my audiunt at home and on-the-go. While the server has a website that works very well on Mac, I just don’t go to my Mac to listen. I tried it once or twice, and it works fine. I only like my iPhone for this.

I think he listening to the audibook comes down only to be more mobile – in my workshop, as soon as I fall asleep. Mac is not really suited to listen to the audibook at those places, so I don’t find it all useful for that task.

My phone also provides a better experience when I am listening to the audibook. Due to the live activity of my audibook player, I can reach a quick rewind or forward with a simple tap. Mac needs to navigate me on the website and find a button, which is not easy or user friendly for me.

    Manage my apple house

Apple Home app on many Apple devices.

    Apple

I like the home app on my Mac, don’t misunderstand me. From time to time, I will open it too. But Mac is not a Go-Two device to manage my Apple home setup.

I think the home app works better and is more useful on my iPhone. I create all scenes and automation from my phone, and I also togle stuff from my phone. In fact, the home app for Mac feels just like the MAC version of the existing iPhone and the iPad app, without touchscreen accessibility.

Only once when I really use the home app on my Mac, when I am drawing a homcomit camera to check on the porch or backyard. Nevertheless, I open the home app, access camera, and open a picture-in-picture.

I find it more useful to add new devices to my phone’s homcomit setup to my phone because it has a camera to easily scan the pairing code. Yes, I also have a camera in my Mac, but let’s go.

    Use threads or x

    Instagram Threads App icon.

    Joe Fedwa / How-to Geek

In a similar vein to scroll a short-form video, I do not actually use threads or X on my Mac. Facebook? I use it all the time.

However, most of my social media consumption comes from my phone, plain and simple. I use Facebook from my Mac because I manage groups and handle such items on Facebook. I do not actually use Facebook as a social network, it is more than a platform or bulletin board for me.

So, if I am on my desk and want to check the latest news on X or see what my friends are on threads, I catch my iPhone. Apps only work better on mobile, information is easy to use, and experience is smooth for me.

While I refuse to do these things on my Mac, it does not mean that my Mac is useless. In fact, Macos is extremely powerful and is at the core of my daily workflow. If you are looking for some new apps to try on Macos, then there are nine open source apps that can change your workflow for better.
