I have been testing the slapping since the launch in November 2022 and has seen the update improved its writing capabilities. However, quite recently, I saw a pattern in chat output – frequent use of EM dash.
Also: I tested 10 AI content detectors – and these 5 recognized the AI text correctly every time.
While the EM dash is a punctual icon liked by many authors, such as themselves, as seen in the above sentence, also seems to be a favorite of chatgipt. While the EM dash, also known as hyphen, is a sophisticated way of adding a stagnation, brake, or one side to one sentence, it may be worth switching to a comma, or you can begin to increase doubt that you rely on AI.
EM dash problem
I don’t believe? Once I started looking at this pattern, I saw it, and it is not just notice to me. there are Redit threads, Openi developer community Discussion, and even Different articles Dedicated to “chatple hyphen”, referred to.
As I said earlier, EM Dash Efficiency is everywhere, ready for their favorite punctuation, so I run an experiment to test my comments.

I told me to write a quick interactive summary, which stated what the chat is and to define some use matters. In the first sentence, EM Dash made an appearance:
Chatgpt is basically an AI with which you can talk , Call on 24/7 like being a super auxiliary writing friend. It is trained to understand all types of questions and signs, and it can generate lessons that seem very natural and human. You can use it for tons of tons: preparation of email, writing blog posts, coming with social media captions, churning ideas, or even helping what you have already written and help polishing what you have already written. It is also very good for creative projects such as stories or poems, and it can explain tricky concepts in a really easily understanding manner. Originally, if it contains words, chatgate may probably help!
I then asked the chat to tell me about New York in summer, and EM Dash was sprinkled through its output:
Absolutely! In summer, the city of New York is vibrant, energetic and packed with things – but also hot, busy and sometimes slightly heavy.
what to expect:
- Season: It is usually warm and humid, with temps in the 90s ° F (25–35 ° C) in the high 70s. Thunderstorms can sometimes be pop up.
- Feeling: The city comes alive. The parks are filled, street artists are out, the roof bars are echoing, and events are happening everywhere.
- Crowd: Tourists are flooded, so long lines are expected in major attractions like Statue of Liberty, Museum and Broadway Show.
- green spaces: Central Park, Prospect Park, and the high line is a great spot to cool slightly, picnic, or a free concert or movie night.
- Cultural programme: Summers, Shakespeare in Park, and outdoor film festivals are big hits.
- Eat: It is prime time for food trucks, road fairs and outdoor food – from trendy spots to classic pizza joints in Brooklyn.
- Beaches and survived: You can expect a metro for Koni Island or take a quick train for beaches like rockway or long beach for a breath.
It is a mixture of patience and magic – chaotic but unforgettable. Are you thinking about going or just curious?

As I continued my test, many outputs did not include EM dash, especially low answers. However, generally speaking, EM dashes are usually not used in everyday language, and, as a result, the continuous gravity of the slapping towards them has made it almost a signature of its text.
Solution
Fortunately, there is a super useful trick to keep your lesson dash-free. You can ask chat at the end of your initial signal not to use EM dash, or, after AI generates your feedback, you can ask it to remove EM dash. Since chatgpt is usually very good in the following instructions, changes will happen immediately after your inquiry.
