The Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has sent a data breech notification that is a matter of concern that the attachment has uploaded the web forms of the Commission on its site. This includes around 670 documents, which were “potentially accessible in error,” The commission confirms.
About 100 of these were actually accessible online, potentially through Bing or Google – which inspired the Commission to address the violation.
“The Commission takes the issue of secrecy and data protection very seriously. It is important that people are able to safely share personal and sensitive information with the Commission through their website. We honestly apologize to those who can be affected. The Commission is contacting the affected persons, for whom we have contacts to them.”
Personal information exposed
The violation was not the result of malicious or criminal acts, although the details will be updated as the investigation continues. “Speaking from Anubhav Project (March-September 2024), Human Rights Awards 2023 Enrollment (3 July 2023-4 September 2023), and National Anti-Racism Framework Concept Paper (October 2021-February 2022) were also influenced by this data violation.”
Many of these include personal information from people affected, although it is clearly not clear what was involved. All affected in this incident have been allegedly notified by the organization.
