One of the best disclosures in the last week’s Warraimmer Skulls event was Boltgun 2, a sequel to a mixture made from the love of Warhemmer 40K and Retro Doom Games. That first game earned itself a place in the hearts of many people, filled with a love for two worlds. But now a sequel cooking is far away, and everyone’s eyes are in the future.
So to help peel the screen just a little on Boltgun 2, I interacted with Principal Designer Matte Bone. Touching what we have expected from Boltgun 2 compared to the original, this warhememer is like making games within 40k IP, and whether a fan will find a house on a tabletop anytime.

Vg247: Boltgun was equally positively obtained from Warhememer fans and retro doom lovers – can you speak on how you feel for the original game about this reception?
Bone: During development we were really excited about the game, but it is always impossible to predict what the players will think until it is in their hands. Therefore, it was a huge relief when it was obtained so positively and overtook our highest hopes.
As everyone in the studio and in it is a big warramer fan, we were excited to share their passion for Warhemmer with the players. Warhamamer 40,000: Boltgan is essentially the game we wanted to play as fans ourselves; We just enjoyed being able to make it.
The fact that it became the biggest game of our studio, it is just a will for our team’s enthusiasm and Varhaimmer 40,000 universe for our love. At the very original of Boltgan, we wanted to please both Warhaimmer 40,000 and retro shooter fans, and it seems that it was a success on both fronts. Our community and Warhaimmer 40,000 community loves were beyond our expectations.
Now we are aiming to do it again!
We are excited to continue working with game workshops to create more games for the audience, especially when we get to detect creative spin -offs like Warhememer 40,000: Boltgan – Venguce of Wannage! It was a very fun and we are giving it for free, so it is definitely worth a try.
Vg247: What can we expect in terms of the change of setting in Boltgan 2? Where has Malum Cado now found himself?
Bone: Malam Kado Boltgan 2 will not be limited to grayya, the partition campaign in their mission branches means that they will purify the new world. We can’t reveal all right now, but we can share that there will be new, never seen environments with all new enemies for Malam. We are connecting some places and enemies that fans are asking, and the sequel was a great place to include these.
We will be more to share in the future and can’t wait to show them!

Vg247: Tell me a little more about the reforms that we can expect from the original game! What is in the context of new weapons, gameplay mechanics, etc.
Bone: It’s still a little hurry to share too much, but we definitely want to provide more diversity in the context of the gameplay and the place where the player is going – and of course they will be pure. We are doubled on things that fans like Boltgan – at the top of it, retro Warhemers take to 40,000 universe – while a lot of new surprises. “Griefly Grimdark” is one of our design columns, which I think tells the tone of the Boltgun Games well: they are a love-in-tongue celebration of Warhememer 40,000, which reveals the pixel glory of blood, gore and glome! ,
Vg247: Would the hoarde mode be returning from the first game?
Bone: It is too early to say. We added hoarde mode as DLC for Boltgan and it seemed to go down well, so we are looking at such a more unique mode, whether it is for the base game or for post-launch. We rely a lot on the player’s response to this kind of thing – if it is something then people are chlams for it, we will try our best to include it.

Vg247: The original Boltgan was tied to the incidents of Warhaimar 40,000: Space Marine was moving towards Graiya after sports events with Kedo. Now that Space Marine 2 has surfaced, can we expect the same relationship between Boltgan 2 and Space Marine 2? Or, have the team been given more freedom to make a completely different game from other 40k games?
Bone: This was great for paying tribute to the other Warhememer 40,000 video games, which is a big fan of Team 2. For anyone unknown, the first boltgun space lifts up directly after the events of Marine 1 because Altmarine Malum goes on a mission to detect the lost shard of the important artifacts of the Cado Space Marine 1. Even we put in a fun Easter eggs for Warhemmer fans in Malum’s taunt to refer to captain Titus!
What is to come to Boltgan 2, you just have to play to find out what we are hiding other fun Easter eggs for fans.
Vg247Games Workshop likes to release the name of the space marine character for tabletop games, and given that he is an ultramarine, the cardo must have a good shot. Has there been any official discussion on bringing Kado to the tabletop? Or should fans keep it with kitbashing?
Bone: We definitely love it if one day was a way to enter the official tabletop game for the ointment, everyone in the studio would like to put it in his armies – I think we have to put it in a studio wide order!
We love all the wonderful kitbash of Malam Cado which fans shares with us regularly and we have seen great examples in social and redit. When the players tag us in pictures of people they have made, we share them within the Dev team and everyone gets super hyp.

Vg247Auroch Digital has certainly done more than just boltgan. Do you like to work with games workshops for licensed games like Boltgun 2, vs.
Bone: For me, I like to play in a universe, who are really a student of decades behind it. There is a 40,000 universe huge understanding to call Warhaymer – every time I think I have a decent handle on it, I would search for a whole new part that I did not know anything about, resulting in a rabbit hole for a few hours. When it comes to making the game, it means that we are often starting a few steps ahead: want an exciting new enemy? To select a few hundred from here, with the best model and pages of learning. Want a new place? There is a galaxy of the world and stories here.
In general, it is important that the game remains loyal to IP, even in our retro-style approach. We want to present it in a way that is unique and still know and love fans of the universe. This vengeance is also true for our words of the project. We had this crazy idea of creating a boltgan typing game, and games workshops – instead of questioning our sanctity – completely on the ship and helped us to achieve it in a big way. They probably still question our sanctity, but this Warhemmer seems suitable for 40,000 universe.
Boltgan 2 ready to launch in 2026
