If Nielson data is to be believedWe collectively spend more time in front of YouTube than any other streaming service – including Disney+ and Netflix. It is a lot of clock hours, especially for an app that demands a lot of belief when talking about its algorithm recommendations, which can easily take you in strange, inflammatory or lowly dark directions. If you want a little more control over what you see, then allow me to share the steps taken to subdue your own YouTube algorithm with you.
Despite how much time we dedicate to see YouTube, the app does not behave most like other streams. Instead of loading the hub page for a show or film, you want to see, you often have to hope that if there is a new episode of your choice, YouTube will show you it. (As someone who dub himself as a YouTube manufacturer, I would love if the app offers a show-specific landing pages, instead, A collection of playlists,
And since the material on YouTube is so diverse, it is easy to get your algorithm from the track. Maybe you are in the habit of watching the content on YouTube for a long time, only to see that by a wrong cat’s video- Suddenly, YouTube feels that you only want to watch cat videos, and nothing more than that.
As YouTube hasn’t responded to my arguments yet Reference-specific browsing profileI have to do every trick with learning to direct the algorithm myself.
Basics: Like, dislikes, membership and bells
You can’t spend 20 minutes on app without youtuber For example, sharing the gospel of sharing and membershipYou still know how those actions help your favorite creators, but how do they help you? Unfortunately, there is no way to know what is the effect of your engagement (even) Can’t know to ensure youtube) But there are some useful things to keep in mind:
-
Use the choice and dislikes to crush your recommendations, not approval or rejection. The Thams up/down button is the most direct way to express your interest (or its lack) for YouTube. They are also one of them Most widely misunderstood toolDo not think of them as a way to communicate with the manufacturer about the substance of their content. In general, it is best to think them as a elbow for their personal recommendations. The choice are very strong indicators that you want to see more similar materials, but not necessarily you will prevent a particular manufacturer or subject from appearing in your feed.
-
Membership is good, but not a guarantee. You can think of subscribing to a channel like a channel for a channel as a whole. This tells YouTube that you want to see what they make next (or see their backlog more). The negative side is that the subscribing is not a guarantee that you will see anything. YouTube favor more recent sub -party in your recommendations. If you want to see all the people you take membership to make, then you really need to look for your membership tab.
-
Clicking on the bell is really the best thing you can. Creators often like to remind you of “clicking on the bell”, and they do it for a reason: this is a push notification (you consider you ( Give information from your YouTube app) Whenever a member of your member uploads a new video. Not only does the possibility increase that you will watch new videos that you care, but it gives important metrics to the creators that they can use to understand their audience.
All these are extremely basic tools to refine your suggestions, but it is also important to understand them in context. YouTube doesn’t Now! Look at what you want, it sees how you actually behave on the app. If you like a video, then subscribe to the channel, and hit the bell, but then you don’t watch a video again from the manufacturer, YouTube will eventually stop recommending them.
This is neither a good nor a bad thing, and unlike some of the creators, it is not bad even for the channels themselves. YouTube algorithm aim is to do something in front of you that you are likely to spend time to see. If the video suggests that that goal is not being met – no matter how much you have said to show those videos to the algorithm – it will run on something else. This understanding that gives us some reference to some next level algorithm taming.
Intermediate Elgorithm Training: Refine your history and reject the videos you don’t want to watch

If you like, membership, and bells are all small elbows for algorithms, can you use big kubdos? I am happy that you asked. Watch time is the most obvious, but it is just using YouTube. And no, there is not much benefit in trying to manipulate it. Just keep looking at the things you like and stop looking at the things you dislike, and YouTube will try to follow your pattern.
“Try to be an operative word”. Anyone who ever Decided a door Knows that YouTube can be a little more to show you a few hours of content, which you have spent five minutes. A quick way to fix it is that you go for your history, search the video in question, and click “Remove from the history of the clock.“Apart from not showing your pre -viewed video list, YouTube will not consider something you spent while recommending the new video.
This trick only works for the individual video you viewed, though. If you are getting recommendations based on comprehensive topics, you cannot see those recommendations before clicking on the video. To find “not interested” labels options, tap on the menu button on the thumbnail of the video (good to indicate that you don’t like it Specific Video suggestions) and “Do not recommend the channel”, which is the closest thing YouTube has to completely block a channel.
It is a matter of disappointment, if you allow YouTube to an autoplay video from thumbnail, before you click on a video anytime – a feature Can and must be closed—Keeya that can be counted as “view” in the history of your watch. I have lost the track of how many times I have set my phone and accidentally “seen” a video for a few minutes. Even if you choose “not interested” before clicking a video, if it is autoplated, you may need to remove it from your history as well.

Advanced algorithm mastery: Use playlists and many accounts to receive recommendations

I will die on the hill of my faith that youtube should have a mode switcher. I want to be able to make a profile to see Dark video essay on top subjects And another profile for dumb cat video. YouTube has arrived Like Close with the introduction of the category tag. In some places, such as some scenes in YouTube or apps on the web, you will see a list of tags for things like “gaming” or “news” that will filter the suggestions. In my opinion they are useful, but insufficient.
I will have something that lets me direct my personal recommendations in different buckets. And over the years I have developed two main strategies to complete it: playlist and account switching.
Playlist
For the playlist approach, I save the videos that I loved on a specific list on a particular subject. Then, if I want to watch more videos on that subject, I will open the playlist and see through the sidebar. It usually gives me more specific videos recommendations for that subject (outstanding with general recommendations), as well as more specific style filters for me to drill deep. The only negative side for this approach is that all this occurs in the sidebar of another video. It is a bit good on mobile, but it may feel a bit hacked several times.
Account switching
The work -making -switching account seems more natural when browsing, but it is slightly more cumbersome to change the mode. YouTube has grown much better on account switching, with a simple “switch accounts” dropdown in most of its apps. Of course, each needs an entire Google account, but a good chance that you already have at least five, anyway.
In this way, there is nothing special about filtering the video, but it gives you some different vacant slates to work rather than a huge. For example, I have a Gmail account that I only use as a throw for junk where I do not want to give my real email address. On YouTube, if I decide that I want to indulge in a junk video compilation, I will first switch to accounts. In this way, whatever waste I see will not affect my primary account recommendations. (It is also helpful if you want to finish guests, but they don’t want them to poison their wells with their videos that they pull.) Only the negative side? If you use YouTube premium to avoid advertisements, it will not take all your other accounts.
All this tinkering will result in a streaming experience that is still less ideal than apps such as Netflix and Disney+ Work. On those services, you can set several profiles within your same account, and it can show off that it is really your aunt who is watching all that garbage TV when she comes to travel. Until YouTube makes it an official feature, the above mentioned tricks will help you get better suggestions.
