Mosila has developed a new security feature for its ad-on portal that helps block the firefox malicious extensions that drain the cryptocurrency wallet.
According to a recent blog post, Mozilla’s new security system creates a risk profile for each presented wallet extension and triggers automated risk alerts if the pre-defined border is over.
These alerts will inspire human critics to look closely and remove malicious extensions from the store before they dry the crypto wallet of more victims.
“To help protect the firefox users, the Ad-on operating team developed an initial identification system designed to identify and prevent the Crypto Scam Extension, before they find traction with a user,” Mosilla Said,
“The first layer of defense contains automatic indicators that determine a risk profile for the wallet extension presented to the AMO. If a wallet extension reaches a certain risk range, human reviewers are alerted to look deeply. If malicious is found, scam extensions are immediately blocked.”
Crypto wallet drivers who steal cryptocurrency or other digital assets from a victim’s wallet, are now being distributed to the system of potential victims through malicious browser extensions, designed to prepare as a valid add-on from the reliable crypto wallet.
This attack vector ensures that the actor of danger can quickly empty the crypto wallet of his goals after stealing his personal keys and credentials, which is likely to recover the lost money.
While not all are tied directly to malicious extensions, the cyber criminal stole a $ 494 million cryptocurrency last year in a wallet-drawing attacks from more than 300,000 wallet addresses last year.
Ad-on-ON Operations Manager, Andreas Wagner, who also leads the protection and review efforts, adds.Mozilla.org (AMO), says that his team has discovered and removed hundreds of such extensions including the scam crypto wallet over the years.
“This is a constant cat and mouse game, because developers try to work around our detection methods,” Wagner explained.
He said, “Check your crypto wallet’s website whether they have an official extension, and only they use that link,” he said, Firefox advice users to use the official extension provided by their crypto wallet services whenever possible.
