Historically, when defined network architecture, it is quite easy to make data buckets or silos. Whether the data was collected here from a system and there from a system, or from a department here and there, the data was almost naturally bucked.
When one of these biggest challenges was storing that data, the bucket or Silo looked quite good. But now this ability is much less than an issue. Our biggest concerns are understanding and insight. Add AI to the mixture, and access to data becomes even more important. For AI to take a logical jump from one concept to another, it needs to be seen as corporate data.

Traditional customer data platform

Going from here to there
This integration of data is important, not only for large enterprises but also for small businesses. I have just spent the last three hours, trying to get a quickbook to tell me how many cloud services are there in my small business so that I can mention it first in this article. But this data is closed behind a set of quickbook fields that cannot be indexed on its own.
I suspect that I can dump the history of the entire transaction for a year, and ask the chatgupt to dig into it, but otherwise, it is the data that I should be on my fingers that are locked in a silo.
Unfortunately, I can’t just bolt the data cloud and it can generate a report at my cloud expenses. AI modernization will require a clear strategy, cross-team cooperation, and, yes, data access. This modernization is not yet signed up for another service. This will require the infrastructure reconsideration.
