The European Space Agency has released an image showing the south pole of the Sun. The image was taken on 23 March 2025, but yesterday it was discovered on 11 June 2025. These new images of the solar orbiter spacecraft show a view of the Sun which had never been recorded before. Solar orbiter brought its last months to see the elusive South Pole, bending its orbit to 17 degrees below the solar equator, which could never be done before.
UV wavelengths were seen in images found
Carroll Mundel, Director of Science, told Today, we reveal the first ideas of the Sun’s pole by mankind. The new images caught the solar pole in broad, visible and ultraviolet wavelength with the help of three of the 10 devices of solar orbiter. These were caught on the colored confinement of the sun figures, with fathomable tangles of its magnetic field. It flipped with high velocity movement of chemicals and makes solar air.
Flip of magnetic field due to solar activity
According For ESA, these data will provide an understanding of solar wind, space weather and 11 years of activity of the sun. Through the measurement of the solar orbiter’s polemetric and heliosis image instrument, the Sun can be seen as throwing out the flares in the overdrive during the period of summit activity.
This disturbance of magnetic fields is temporary and flips after every 11 years. This indicates the end of the maximum solar activity and the onset of transition towards the next solar minimum relative cool. In addition, after five to six years, when the solar starts minimal, the sun’s pillars only show a type of magnetic polarity.
First step towards the sun
With the coming years, there will be several stance to do further tests for solar orbiter. Through the small help of Venus’s gravitational bridge, it will rejuvenate its orbit to 24 degrees from the solar equator in December 2026, 33 degrees in June 2029. This will help us to know the sun from different regions and in turn, the magnetic field can learn about the solar wind and activity.
