Some I am proud of myself, I wish to find new places, whether close to the house or when I am traveling. Searching for a new restaurant or finding about a special setting in a new city is something exciting about which locals pass and dear.
Less exciting is when I try to remember the name or place of that place after some time and draw an empty. I enjoyed for the first time to see a place again or shared that search with someone else.
Fortunately, iOS 26 receives a feature that gives data to help fill my swish cheese memory hole. In this year’s iPhone software, the Maps app adds the convenience of a visited locations that are designed to log easily where you are. In this way, you can later refer to the list of your visiting places so that you can help jog your memory about the restaurant you had eaten the store where you found a special item or cafe that you had a welcome environment and free Wi-Fi.
As apple describes, your phone will be able to find out that you have gone to a shop or restaurant, that information is being stored in the visiting places of the map. Possibly, you will find that in the maps library, which currently stores pins, guides and more.
Depending on the shared of the screenshot apple, your views will be conducted by the category – food, travel, nature and further by the city. Cities to be seen more often will get more major placements in the places seen.
How I would like to see places seen
I could use such a feature about six months ago when I found myself on a quick journey of los angeles that brought me into a neighborhood that I was not in almost a decade. Again, I had visited a tackia, which I used to serve some of the best oxakan meals till now. But because the place was lost for the sand of time and its location was very nondescript (which describes the best places to eat in LA in my experience), I had a devil of time, which had time to track Taciaria, with the whole internet, at my disposal.
The places seen must have solved that dilemma, at least in theory. I will go to the restaurant and eat my delicious tacos, while the Maps app handled the difficult task to remember, where I was. In this way, when remembering the stories of excellent tacos at the later date, I will be able to easily see the name and place within the Maps app. Even the place will have the ability to share the place with other people directly from the places seen directly.
With its voice, the views seen should be able to work on any iPhone running on iOS 26 – in other words, I do not think it is up to Apple Intelligence, although I am trying to confirm it and will update this article once. Apple has made it clear that this facility will not work everywhere initially. Apart from the US, places seen in Australia, UK, Canada, Malaysia and Switzerland will be supported.
Visited questions
If it seems that it is still in the air, it is because it is – and not just because iOS 26 is available only as a developer beta at this point. (The iOS 26 Public Beta comes out next month, and a complete release in the fall is as follows.) I have iOS 26 running on iPhone 15, but the visiting locations are not yet visible in the map version of my test phone.
This is my understanding that when you first launch a map in iOS 26, you will be motivated to choose the option of visiting locations and that will be a setting for you to turn or close as needed. In WWDC 2025 Keenote, Kathy Lynn, manager of services software engineering at Apple, said you can “choose to detect your iPhone when you are somewhere like a restaurant or shop.” I have not seen that it can yet be chalked for either sons’ vagina or setup of my test device.
Such a feature will also increase the concerns of privacy about location tracking, although Lynn’s comment above seems to see that you have to choose the option of the places traveling. Other reports have noticed that data has been encrypted at visited locations and cannot be accessed by Apple. You will also be able to remove places from the list, which is not only better than a privacy point of view, but also because some places are not worth remembering.
Other iOS 26 Map Facilities
In addition to the viewed locations iOS 26 maps that I want to try the most, but it is not the limit to changes that Apple is offering in this version of its phone software.
Also joining the mixture of features is a preferred passage capacity, where maps log the routes you take regularly, whether it is your daily traffic, school drop-off or frequent work. Knowing the routes you like, maps can alert you to traffic issues and suggest alternative routes. These alerts may appear in the form of information or even in the map widget that you have placed on your home screen.
It sounds like a feature Desire Apple Intelligence is required, but we will see that we spend more time testing iOS 26 on various iPhones.
iOS 26 Maps Outlook
As is someone whose movement is 20 feet away from my house office from my bedroom, the facility of favorite routes available in iOS 26 is not the same attraction that has been visited in places. But the presence of both characteristics suggests that Apple is looking for ways to distribute more with your mapping tools, while only a navigational app you should expect.
