Microsoft has announced a plan to remove Legacy drivers from Windows updated catalogs to reduce security and compatibility risks from time to time.
“The argument behind this initiative is to ensure that we have the optimal set of drivers on the Windows update that completes a variety of hardware equipment in Windows Ecosystem, while it ensures that Microsoft Windows security currency has not been compromised,” Microsoft said,
“This initiative involves periodic cleaning of drivers from Windows updates, resulting in some drivers not being introduced to any system in the ecosystem.”
As the company explained on Thursday, the first phase of this “cleaning” process will include newly replacement drivers published on Windows updates.
In this context, Cleanup referred to ending drivers by removing its association with the audience in Windows updates and thus prevent them from introducing any windows system. This will be done by removing the assignment of the expired driver’s audience at the hardware development center.
Microsoft will begin by removing inheritance drivers and later expanding to include more categories that can be removed to increase safety. However, the partners can still re -publish drivers removed by Microsoft during this periodic cleaning process if they can provide a justified commercial reason.
“Microsoft Windows updates delete the inheritance drivers are an active measure to protect security and improve the quality of the driver for Windows users,” said Redmund.
“Moving forward, expect this cleaning a regular practice, and prepare for the introduction of new publication guidelines that will help all Windows users to keep their systems in safe and reliable conditions.”
In May, Microsoft also announced Changes in pre-production driver signing Certificate Authorities (CAS) determined to end in July Retirement of Windows Matadata and Internet Services (WMI) And the device metadata.
Additionally, earlier this week, the company unveiled the new security default for Windows 365 Cloud PC for all Microsoft 365 Tenants in July and in July, used a league autocolor to block access to all Microsoft 365 tenants for all Microsoft 365 tenants and block access to office files.
