Cheap parking, alumni charged at Hacking University for data violations

The New South Wales Police in Australia arrested a student of 27 -year -old East Western Sydney University (WSU) on several occasions for allegedly hacking in the university system, which begins with a plan to get cheap parking.

In particular, the woman, identified by Local media report As a Burdi Kingston, unauthorized access from 2021, data theft and the university’s infrastructure is alleged to affect hundreds of employees and students.

“Since 2021, the University of Western Sydney experienced a series of cyber hacks, including unauthorized access, data exfiltration, system agreement and misuse of the university’s infrastructure – including threatening to sell students’ information on the dark web,” NSW police press release reads,

“It is estimated that hundreds of employees and students of the university were affected by these incidents.”

WSU is a major educational institution in Australia that offers 47,000 students a wide range of graduates, postgraduates and research programs. It employs over 4,500 regular and seasonal staff members and works on a $ 600 million (USD) budget.

The educational institution revealed several security violations from last year. In May 2024, it confirmed the unauthorized access to its Microsoft Office 365 atmosphere, which began in May 2023, exposing 7,500 individuals.

In April 2025, WSU announced that it had faced two more security incidents. The first incident included an agreement of one of the university’s single sign-on (SSO) systems between January and February 2025, with around 10,000 students.

The second incident included a leakage of theft data related to the WSU community members on the Dark web, which began on 1 November, 2024.

The NSW police suspect that Kingston is behind the incidents and others who are charging him with 20 crimes.

During raids and arrests at his residence in Kingswood, police investigators found and seized computer equipment and mobile equipment, which could have evidence.

Parking access and manipulation of academic records to endanger the sales of student data on the dark web were allegedly enhanced its functions.

The Australian media claims that the police officially warned Kingston in September 2023 when she lived in the WSU campus, but she was not allegedly and continued her hacking activities against the university.

Based on the same report, the hacker stole more than 100 GB of confidential data from the WSU system, changed educational results, concessional parking safe in the university, threatened to sell stolen student data on dark forums, and demanded a ransom payment of $ 40,000 in cryptocurrency.

Bleepingcomputer has contacted WSU for a comment on the hacker’s arrest, but we have not yet received any response.
