Prime Video has never shouted from bringing AI facilities into its streaming service.
Last year, it rolled out several AI-operated updates, including new AI-related recommendations and summary and X-ray recaps, using artificial intelligence to provide a summary that holds you to the point you saw in a show or film for the last time.
But this is just the tip of generative AI Iceberg.
Yesterday at a prime engagement event, Prime Video showed several AI features that are already applicable in Prime Video or are in the process of roll out (H/T/T) deadline,
Some of these, such as searching suggestions and language dubbing, hope only the major video experiences are going to improve. But there is a feature that Prime Video showed that I do not want to be necessary.
A Picture Quality Boost is not necessarily a good thing
In its reporting, the deadline showed that the prime video is already helping to improve the material resolution and picture quality using AI.
“We are investing in AI to protect the quality of the picture, even if the details are lost at low rates, for example, on the mobile network,” said Trisia Lee, “said Trisia Lee in prime video,” Products and Data Director in Prime Video, “said Trisia Lee.
“We also see opportunities in AI-based remastering to convert standard definition material into high definition, which we think not only creates a high quality view experience, but preserves creative intentions and (AN) enhances the value of SD catalogs.”
Allegedly, the focus of this feature is to improve live events streaming on the spotted bandwidth, with which I have no problem. But I have an issue with AI Uncontrolled To improve the quality of the picture of standard definition material.
Uncontrolled there is an important word. I do not have the problem of using AI in restoration and growth of existing materials, provided that the process is seen by skilled human hands (and eyes). In those examples, a human is able to attend if AI has gone overboard with its improvement.
But the AI-Enhancement feature of Prime Video runs only in the background. If so, I am very worried that generative AI is being used, unnecessary growth, or in some examples, even the viewing experience will hurt.
As someone who swears the filmmaker mode, it sounds like the opposite.
