I like to use my computer desktop, the way I use my physical desktop – to keep documents and photos related to another place that I am currently working. The problem is that I am usually working on many projects, which means that my computer desktop is a mess of unrelated things.
Say that I am selling my old MacBook, but also organizing important cat pictures for my newsletter – that everyone takes a lot of space, and I do not need to see All Of those pictures All Time. Wouldn’t this be better if I show what things I show on my desktop based on my current project?
This idea is behind InfinidskAn indie Mac app from developer Ben shirt-aidis This allows you to make as much virtual desktop as you like and switch between them from the menu bar.

The idea behind Infinidesk is that you will create separate desktops for different projects, allowing you to use your desktop as a workspace for each of them. This is not like the original mission control of your Mac – it does not affect you open windows. Instead, the focus, just on your desktop is on the icon. You can make as many different desktops as you need. When you create a new desktop, all your current icons will disappear, allowing you to add new. When you switch between the desktop, all your icons will disappear and again appear.
What do you think so far?
This is a simple concept, and it will not be useful for all – only some of us use our desktops to store files at this point, and you can already have your own system to keep things systematic. But if your desktop is getting out of control, Infinidesk can help you to keep things well without making the desktop useless in this process – especially if you have a computer for both work and personal use.
Infinidesk offers a free version, with a catch: You can only switch a desktop. It should be enough for you whether this app is useful for you, though. The cost of the full version as one time payment is $ 12.99.
