After delay in production, Old Guard 2Netflix and Skydance’s sequel starring Charlize Theron in the 2020 Amar action film, now streaming. In typical sequel fashion, the objective of following the adaptation of image comics is not only to extend the emotional stakes with Theron’s Andy to the higher heights as he holds his new mortality, but it also makes him an old immortal in his long -lost lost partner Quinn (Veronica NGO) and Uma Thurman’s discord.
IO9 spoke with director Victoria Mahoni (for Assistant Director Star Wars: The Rise of Skyvocker) Regarding his guiding theory in the reins of the story from the previous director Jeena Prince-Binewood, as well as its end.

Mahon: Dear. I am deeply investing in making sure why they are fighting, I think why they are protesting, I think why they are ducking, I think why they are punching, I think why they are killing, I think why they are swinging, why they are running, I think they think they are jumping. I am deeply investing how it feels inside the person because they are moving forward, breathing, and navigating, vs. “Oh, it was good in a way.” When someone like, “Holy Nonsense!” This is what I see.
IO9: Uma Thurman, with the artists joining the artists, is thrilled to share the screen with the fans Charlize Theron. How did their heritage affect their legacy as an action icon, how did you stage the direction of their confrontation?
Mahon: There is something that I want to go back is interesting because I want to raise two major quarrels that belong to the note. There are many, but in relation to Andy and Quinn, the components of that fight had to be 500 years of pain (and) in thousands of years of history. Then there was a beat that was Quinh – if you look close, you will see. I gave him a note before rehearsing the scene. I sit with her every day, and I talked to her a lot about her body, if you were in water for 500 years, how does it affect how you swing, punch, or kicking? I talked to him and said, “I don’t care where it is. At some point in your fight, you have to do something different about him. (Andy) Don’t know that you have lost your immortality, but Quinh feels it.” It was a different place, I said, “You should do wherever you want. It should be. When you take all that with those two people, and you have history, it is actually more than a dope fight in the street with a quiet music Q.
When you bring it to the end with Andy and Discord, two people at different ends of the rope for different reasons, and have lived for thousands of years, the factors of mortality and immortality are alive in each of them for different reasons, which do not know the other. There is a ruse. There is a cat-and-raw in dialogue for fighting. it’s so much fun. Tempo and rhythm are everything. Emotionally, physically, psychologically, spiritually. This is all.
IO9: The film ends on a cliffon, practically begging for a follower. Was a third installment already in meditation during production, or will you be hoping that fan enthusiasts and Netflix viewership will help Greenlight in the final chapter?
Mahon: It depends on whom you ask whether he had a third film installment or not. I did not do this because I went to work every day with work work. There are things that I did in some sequences, which I wanted to make sure that I was aware, similarly when I came in and inherited the film, that you know that you can create a problem for someone later. So there were very few things that I knew that if we do this, you would have an openness to go to East or West Story.
But in relation to day-to-day filming, the story, and whatever is happening in the given day, at that time, and what I have to do, and what to do with the sequence in hand, I am in a long time. This is the only thing we are doing. There is no film before, no film is the first. This is only in this moment.

IO9: As the sequel finally comes, what do you expect the audience take with them, not only as a payment for waiting, but as a permanent reminder why this story still makes a deep cut and why it is eligible to bear?
Mahon: Why did I choose this film, a part of it is that when I watch movies, I am surprised. I wonder where the characters are coming from and where they are going. I wonder what they eat in the morning and what they eat at night. I wonder if the person he loves is going to love him back. I wonder if they do not lock the double bolt at the door in a chase scene, then why did they not lock the double bolt at the door when you are being followed, right? I just want to know that when you jump out of a window in a chase scene you leave the window open. Close the window so that they don’t know that you have gone out, right? I wonder
I also want to surprise how they got that shot? “Oh God, how did he prepare? Oh wow, what lens did they use?” I wonder how they built that place? How long did it take to make that set? I want to surprise both fronts of what is on the screen and what they have done on the screen.
Then, when all this is said and done, any film that I ever see, I am surprised, and it is not specific, and I don’t care what it is. I want the film to surprise me. But when I get up and go away from a movie theater, or when I am at home, I am surprised.
In this film, if we can surprise people that like to live our lives with some granules of honesty and care, then “life is short, even when it’s tall.” Everything happens in a fleeting minute, and how do we treat people in someone given in someone. You can walk through the day and meet 42 people, but for one of the individuals, you can be the only person whom they talk or contact him. Whatever reasons in that person’s life, they could not have human relations. They would not have seen anyone, no one has seen them in the eyes in years or months. So when I see that one person and smile, I say, “Hello, how are you?” Wonder.
