Openai is creating a brand-new web browser, and it can completely change how we find, browse and get things online.
According to recent leaks and A Special report of ReutersThe company behind Chatgpt is working on a chromium-based browser that integrates AI agents directly into your browsing experience.
Internal is named “Operator”, this new browser is expected to go much further than the discovery to offer smart, memory-equipped agents that can summarize pages, full actions (eg booking journey) and finally handle full web-based tasks for you.
If it looks like a comet of perplexity, you are right. The recently launched AI-operated browser discovery and the sidebar integrates the north directly into the page. Openai’s browser will probably compete with chrome and comet, but has not been launched yet. It is rumored that the rumor of rolling as part of an early beta for customers in the US in the US is probably later in this summer.
As someone who tests the AI device for a living, I have tried almost every smart support and search engine on the market. And while the comet of perplexity presents a solid first look on the future of AI browsing, here I am most excited by Openai’s tech, and I hope it will be right.
1. Really active browsing assistant

It is great to answer questions. But what I want from the browser of openi is more autonomous; An assistant who does not just wait a quick, but actively enhances the page I am doing.
Imagine to browse and be helpful to Amazon, automatically suggest comparison of the product or drag into real reviews from the redit. Or reading a news article and immediately looking at a timeline, source reference and different approaches, but with zero signals.
The level of active aid can turn passive browsing into intelligent search and I am fully here for it.
2. Underlying agents who take action

Openai’s “operator” agents are rumored to handle full tasks beyond search or summary. For example, filling the form, booking tickets or handling customer service chat will all be done for you.
If this is true, it is a big jump. While the comet of perplexity is great for drawing into the north, Openai’s approach can introduce a new range of browser-based automation run by memory, reference and logic.
3. Cleaner Answer, Better Source

Let’s be honest: search engines are filled with AI-Janit slopes, vague product list, SEO junk and misleading clicks. Perplexity tries to solve it by pulling the answer from verified sources and citing them in real time.
Openai can go further further, to offer cleaners from your own training data and web browsing capabilities, more finely summarized with source-level transparency. If they can combine the convergent intelligence of Chatgpt with web accuracy, this discovery can help in reverse the spam crisis.
4. A tab to rule all of them

If Openai’s browser integrates with the existing multimodal tools of Chatgpt, including image generation to spreadsheet analysis and file upload, it can become the first correct all-in-one productivity browser.,
This will give creators, students and professionals an easy way to write, cod, search, design and automate within an interface.
Bottom line
Perplexity’s comet browser is a strong first step towards smart web browsing. But Openai’s rumor browser has the ability to go ahead by offering more intelligent, personal and action-taiyar browsing experience.
I am closely watching beta to drop. And if it saves active agents, real web automation and a cleaner, more useful internet promise, it may launch the most exciting browser since Chrome.
