As the heat of heat turns my bedroom into a sauna, I spend the nights bouncing and turning, trying hard to find the situation that looks best.

However, I realized that this continuous movement is increasing my temperature and only a sleeping condition that will help reduce it.

Therefore, I have asked a sleep specialist what is the best position to stay calm at night during a heatwave, as well as to raise your top tips to get quality sleep in summer. We will also dig deeply under the influence of rising temperature on the quality of our sleep.

What is the best position for sleeping during heatwave?

“Side gold is often better in hot weather because it helps your body to stay cold,” Dr. William Lu says in Medical Director and Sleep Experts Drame health,

“Unlike the back or abdominal sleep, the side sleep reduces the amount of your body in contact with the mold, which allows more airflow and low heat buildup. It exposes your body more in the air, which helps the heat to escape more easily.”

It is important to help to evaporate airflow sweat, a major process that helps our core reduce body temperature.

Dr. Lu also shared an interesting advantage of side sleeping. “This condition can improve breathing,” they say, “which also supports better temperature regulation.”

When you are sleeping on your back, and instead of snoring later, instead of allowing your mouth to open, you ensure that your respiratory system is not under unfair stress.

Can the wrong sleeping situation make you heat up?

“Yes, some sleep conditions may make you feel hot, including sleeping on your back or stomach,” Dr. Lu says.

But why is it? “These positions increase your body volume in contact with the mattress, which implicates more heat and limits the airflow,” they explain.

“Stomach sleep can also restrict airflow around your chest and face, which can make it feel full.”

If you want to give the side sleeping, but this is not your natural condition, you can try a cooling side sleeper body pillow. They put pressure from your back and knees, and align the spine to make the side sleep and feel more comfortable.

Why is it difficult to sleep in summer?

It is no surprise that we are struggling in this summer, the temperature is reaching new height worldwide. But what does it do for our sleep?

“When it is too hot, your main temperature can remain high, delay in sleep and reduce deep, restructural stages like slow-wave and REM sleep,” Dr. Lu says.

These steps of sleep are necessary to relax and feel mentally and physically well.

“You can wake up more often throughout the night, which can lead to light, more fragmented sleep,” he warns. “It may make you feel less, less alert and less refreshed the next day.”

Fragrant sleep can also cause disruption in the RAM phase of sleep, causing vivid dreams and bad dreams.

3 top tips for sleeping in summer

So, how can we stop the heat from interrupting our sleep? Dr. Lu has shared some of its top tips.

    1. Caves of Caves

Sleeping like a cave does not look attractive, but it actually refers to a very simple trick that is another nature for many people who live in warm climate.

Dr. Lu recommends, “Keep your bedroom as cold as possible during the day by blocking sunlight or any extra heat.”

This means keeping your curtains, blinds, windows and doors closed throughout the day. It stops the heat by entering your home and getting stuck, causing a cooler bedroom, is more favorable to get quality sleep.

Something that has helped me to maintain my sleep, no matter how high the temperature is and is investing in cooling beds and quality, pajamas with breathing materials.

Dr. Lu says, “Swap your bed for some light and breath, such as cotton.” And it is not just cotton that can help.
