The Google Maps is one of the most popular navigation apps on the market, but a recent change can be discontinued by users.
Last year, Google removed the supporting driving mode from under the Google Map app, allowing users to interact with Google Assistant when navigating, which is a useful way to control media playback on this step. When this mode was removed, users had to use the show Media Playback Control feature instead, which works with apps such as YouTube music and spotify, to easily control what they were listening to when driving. However, as reported earlier 9to5 googleThe playback control facility appears to be removed.
In the previous versions, the playback bar will appear at the bottom of the screen, while you navigate, allowing you to stop, play and leave songs or podcasts without the need to leave the app. However, as the Google Maps version 25.28, the control has disappeared with the togal to show them.
I checked the app on my Galaxy Z Fold 5 with the most up-to-date version of the app and, of course, I did not find enough, I did not get togle, which usually live in the navigation tab. However, my colleague’s Honor 400 Pro, Google Maps version is running 25.29, he had togle.
It should be noted that, at the time of writing, this feature still appears on the iOS version of the Google map. For example, we cannot definitely say whether removing from Android is a deliberate like or a bug in the app.
A useful feature disappears
The advantage of easy playback control tools is that they allow users to quickly change the song without the need to focus their attention from the road. If you remove them, it means that a user has to leave the Google map, find the related media app, change the song and then go back to the Google map. Best of all, it is a solid ten to twenty seconds where they do not focus as much as they should be on the road.
If this removal is a deliberate option, it will definitely be a disappointment and possibly some users will be likely to lead for alternative apps such as wedges, which still have media control in the app. However, Google Maps have released several recent updates that can help users to keep on the app. For example, Google Maps on iPhones recently rolled out a screenshot recognition feature, which could find the places of images you saved in your camera gallery.
For some time, we will need to wait and see if Google keeps this change, or if it is only a hiccup that will be addressed. If this is going to be new to the app, tell us what you think and if it will inspire you to change the navigation app.
