Each Mac model that upgrade in Mcos 26 Taho (and which is not compatible)

    Kerry Van/ZDDNet

WWDC last month, Apple announced its upcoming update for Macos 26, dubbed “Taho”, which includes several app joints, a supercharged spotlight feature, and Apple’s “liquid glass” UI UI Urm Langer around the aesthetics included the new design customization that we are seeing in its devices.

Also: The days of your old MacBook are counted, because Apple confirms the end of support

But cooked in all updates, Apple quietly dropped the news that Macos 26 would be the final operating system supported by Intel-based Mac. After this update, Apple will stop supporting these old equipment with new updates and access to the latest operating system.

With those lines, not every MacoS will support McOS 26, as some pre -2020 MacBooks with Intel Chips are not compatible. This news did not come as a major shock for most – Windows is leaving support for a wide health of PC later this year – but it is still not that many MacBook owners want to listen to.

If you have a Mac and is not sure that your device will support the new operating system, we have got a full list to create an understanding of the update.

Which Mac model will get Macos 26 Tahoe?

The following MACS will be able to support MACOS 26 when it releases this decline:

    • MacBook Pro M1 or later
    • MacBook Pro 16-inch (Intel) 2019
    • MacBook Pro 13-inch (Intel) 2020 with Char Thunderbolt 3 ports
    • MacBook Air M1 or later
    • Mac Studio 2022 and later
    • Mac Pro 2019 or later
    • Mac Mini 2020 or later
    • IMAC 2020 or later

As Apple said, this will be the final operating system. Intel-based devices will support, so if you have one of this list, you probably want to upgrade and live on the taho for the remaining of the device’s life cycle.

Too: Each iPhone model that can be updated to iOS 26 (and who cannot) can be updated

The Macos 26 Tahoe will not be completely released to the public until September this year, but if you are itching to peep a secretly, you can participate in the beta test, which was closed early this week.

How can I identify my Mac model?

This is the easy part. Just navigate on the Apple icon in the top left corner of the menu bar and click “about this Mac”. You will be able to see the full name of your model there.

Which Mac models will no longer be supported?

If you have a MacBook before 2020 with the Intel chip, it will not be possible (unless it is one of the models listed above). It includes both MacBook Air and two-Port MacBook Pro 13-inch from 2020 with Intel processors. Nothing is supported by 2018 or before.

Too: Best MACOS 26 features that Windows PC users are enjoying for years

If you have one of these Macs, your device will still work, but you will need to stay on the Macos 15 sequoia for the remaining of its life cycle.

Macos 26 Public beta vs full release: What is the difference?

The Macos 26 beta version is different from normal release as it is still in development during beta. During the initial period, developers and testers can evaluate software and optimize their apps and services for better launch stability. Now that the public beta is out, a good part of the newly declared features is available, although they may not be customized, may be a small car, or not fully complete.

Also: How to install Macos 26 on your MacBook (and which models support it)

After months of beta testing, general release should be launched in association with Apple’s collapse products including the latest iPhone model. It is then that the Macos 26 will possibly appear a large -scale rollout, allowing all the eligible Mac users to download the software.

While full release usually does not include many bugs and glitches as beta, users may experience some issues during the first few weeks and months. Regardless, you would like to see through the update logs because you are downloading the software so that you can fully understand those features and benefits.

When will Macos 26 be released?

Apple usually releases its new operating system for public beta access a few weeks after WWDC, and this year public beta went live on 24 July. Public beta program allows users to test developing software to indicate bug and performance issues. This process allows software teams to make any necessary improvements and release before reaching the general availability of the new system.

Too: Your Mac is a huge spotlight upgrade – finally

Apple released Macos 15 out of beta on 16, 2024 a week after its “GloveTime” event. We expect the same with Macos 26.

    What is software beta?

A software beta is a program or a version of the operating system, initially released to a limited group of users to react and collect iron out. Beta release allows a developer or company to test its software program or system to simulate the use of the real world before normal release.

Too: Apple gave me a compelling reason to dig my MacBook for an iPad. here’s why

The beta phase follows alpha tests, where software is developed and tested internal within the company.
