With iOS 26, Apple introduced its largest design update in more than a decade. The overhaul is a new liquid glass interface that combines a translucent, layered look for on-screen elements on the best iPhone. Now that the iOS 26 Public Beta is out, you can give it a spin for yourself-and it is a game-changer for your homescreen.
The liquid glass interface basically adds a third way to see the app icon in addition to traditional light and dark mode. When enabled, each icon is finished with round edges and colors, a new minimum design that allows bleeding through whatever image behind it is as if you are looking through the glass.
Apple said in a press release last month, “Its color is informed by the surrounding material and wisely detects between light and dark atmosphere.”

For the “liquid” part of the name, it refers to how these transparent touch dynamically optimized because you use your Apple device. The menu and button can respond to your touch, some with gathering around your finger, while other materials are divided into a new menu to avoid obstructing your approach.
Additionally, elements on your lock screen can stretch and move around to accommodate background images or incoming information. Wallpapers now also benefit from a spatial photo effect, some borrowed from the visionos found on the Vision Pro headset of Apple, which can tilt and move an image based on your viewing perspective.
Liquid glass is not exclusive to Apple’s mobile operating system. The company is uniting its software look and feel across the board to switch between Apple Watch, iPhone, and Mac More Seamless. “The new design is spread over iOS, iPados, McOS, WatchOS and TVOS, with updates of system experiences such as lock screen, home screen, desktop and dock,” said Apple.
How to customize your iPhone with liquid glass icon

It is very simple to customize your home screen with the new liquid glass design of iOS 26. Since iOS 26 is still in its test phase (than a full rollout around September), you must first get a public beta on your phone. If you are not already, we have found a step-by-step guide to download iOS 26 Public Beta.
Once downloaded, it is easy to enable liquid glass interface. It takes just three simple stages:
- Press for a long time anywhere on the lockscreen Or the background of your phone to get editing button to pop up in the top left corner. Edit Tap.
- At the bottom of the screen, a pop-up menu option will show light, dark, dyed and clear. Tap clear,
- Choose between clear dark, clear light, or clear auto.
The light option turns everything into glass, and the dark gives your interface that gives a glassfied look while maintaining the original color of some icons. Alternatively, you can choose the auto so that the interface switch between light and darkness depending on the day time.
and that’s it! Your homescreen icon will immediately get liquid glass design, giving your background shine through your apps to feel a smooth, minimalist. If you later change your mind and want to go back to the old form, just follow the same steps.
