    Microsoft says

Microsoft says that August 2025 security updates are triggering unexpected user account control (UAC) signs and app installation issues in all supported Windows versions.

This known issue is caused by a safety patch that addresses Cve-2025-50173 The Windows Installer Privilege Escalation Vulnerance, which may allow authentic attackers to obtain system privileges due to a weak authentication issue.

To address this safety vulnerability, Microsoft has implemented new user account control (UAC) that requests administrators credentials in various situations to prevent potential attackers from allowing. Some of the landscapes that may include the MSI repair command (eg ‘msiexec /fu`) in these signals, installing applications that configure themselves for individual users, and execute the Windows Installer during the active setup.

Additionally, this change can prevent standard users from deploying packages through configuration manager (configuration) that depend on user-specific “advertising” configurations, enabling safe desktops, and while launching autodek applications, including autocads, civil 3Ds, and inventor cams.

The complete list of affected platforms is widespread, and it includes both clients and server platforms:

    • Customer: Windows 11, version 24h2; Windows 11, version 23h2; Windows 11, version 22h2; Windows 10, version 22h2; Windows 10, version 21h2; Windows 10, version 1809; Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019; Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2016; Windows 10, version 1607; Windows 10 Enterprise 2015 LTSB
    • Server: Windows Server 2025; Windows Server 2022; Windows server, version 1809; Windows Server 2019; Windows Server 2016; Windows Server 2012 R2; Windows Server 2012

“August 2025 Windows Security Update (KB5063878) included a security improvement and later updated to implement the need for a user account control (UAC) prompt for administrators credentials while repairing Windows Installer (MSI) and conducting the Windows Installer (MSI),” The company explained On Wednesday, a Windows release health dashboard update.

“If a standard user runs an app that starts an MSI repair operation without displaying the UI, it will fail with an error message. For example, install office professional plus 2010 as a standard user and fail with error 1730 during the configuration process.”

Microsoft is working to address this known issue, which can allow MSI repair to operate specific applications without the need of a UAC prompt, a fix that will be released with a fixes updated.

    Temporary workaround is available

As long as a fix begins to exit, as a temporary work -round, Microsoft advises users to run the app using Windows Installer (MSI) as a administrator. To do this, open the start menu or search results, right-click the app, and choose the ‘Run Ease Administrator’ option.

Those who cannot run apps can request their IT administrator to reduce the problem by using and configuring a special group policy. Known points Rollback (KIR)) On the following Windows versions after Microsoft reached the team:

    • Windows 11, version 22h2, 23h2, 24h2
    • Windows Server 2025
    • Windows Server 2022
    • Windows 10, version 21h2, 22h2

Microsoft is also working to solve another bug caused by the August 2025 security update, which is causing severe intervals and stuttering issues with NDI streaming software on Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems.

Additionally, the company said last week that it found no connection between August 2025 KB5063878 security update and failure and data corruption issues, affecting solid-state drives (SSDs) and hard disk drives (HDDs).
