Google admits that its Google Home app has not given the best experience for managing smart home devices, and now its purpose is to change it. On Wednesday, with new nest equipment and an upcoming Google Home Smart Speaker, Tech Giants also unveiled a re -designed version Google Home App It promises that it will work better, centralize device management, and will bring its AI assistant Mithun AI into experience.

While AI is new with Google Home App, there may be a headline feature about it, the app itself is an overhaul, in design, performance and reliability, Google claims.

“I want to be very direct, Google Home and Nest’s Chief Product Officer Anish Kattukaran told reporters in a briefing before today’s news, Google Home app does not have the experience of the Google Home App that we always want we want it.”

Before the company can work on connecting new AI facilities, it had to solve other problems of the app, he said.

“Was the number one performance,” he said. “Performance is definitely a journey. We are not at the destination … it continues to develop.”

Over the last several months, Google says that it has made some major improvements, which has improved 70% faster, 80% less crash and other batteries and memory. In the last one year, it has also been sent to more than 100 performance updates and app facilities in the app, which today works in over 800 million equipment from over 50,000-plus OEMs, which means companies that make devices compatible with Google Home. (Google announced support 750 million devices Back to his developer conference in May 2025.)

    The nest comes ‘home’

In addition, the company is working to manage the Google Home app to manage the only app Nest users, which is more than a decade after the company’s 2014 device manufacturer’s acquisition after a decade. In the following years, Google has gradually brought the Nest app facilities to Google Home and now he feels that the journey is complete. (The Nest App is not going away yet, but the Nest device owners should be ready for that final future.)

In terms of equipment, the app now supports Nest thermostats since 2015, including their schedule, energy history and hot water boost features. It also supports Nest cameras and doorbells (including migration of their history), Nest Protect’s emergency information for smoke and co -alert and Nest X Yale also supports Nest’s passcode management for Nest.

With the focus on the Nest, the Google Home app is improving camera features, including the video, a sharp and smooth camera feed, and a better scrubbing experience to proceed through an animated preview rich in iOS and Android notifications. Google says that the camera live views 30% faster than before and it reduced the playback failures by 40%.

Camera tiles are also immediately loaded, and scrolling through the history of the camera is more than 6x high frame rate, Google.

The updated Google Home app now has only three tabs for simplicity: home, activity and automation.

In addition, it added support to gestures, which means that you can swipe on the home tab to move between all devices and preferred devices, or to move via various dashboards. You can also swipe to roam inside the camera view, such as swipe down to see full camera view, to get out, or to tolerate between left and right timeline views and views.

On the video player, you can do on YouTube, double-tap on the left or right for a rewind or fast-forward.

Event notifications on iOS or Android now expand, show rich, animated previews, making it easier to see what is happening at home from the lock screen of your smartphone. AI can abbreviate the activity in the history of alert and your camera, so instead of looking at “detecting speed”, you will see what the activity actually occurred.

The Activity Tab of Google Home App displays activity history for your entire home, including devices that are not done by Google or Nest. The top of the tab is a new AI-manual “home brief” feature, which uses Gemini to briefly present the things that occur in the house that day, which prevents you from reading through hours of alerts and events.

To find specific events, you can use the filter involved or just “ask home” – a new way to interact with Gemini through the app later.

This discovery and aid feature is constantly accessible from new header navigation in Google Home and will suggest related tools and automation for example, starting typing things like “Lights” or “Living Room”.

You can use Gemini AI to ask questions about your home using natural language, ask for a specific camera clip, control several devices at once, and among other things, you can make automation by describing them. It answers questions to questions like “When did the children come home?” Or “did I leave the car door open?”

When you are watching the camera event, AI can also describe the activity that the camera sees, stating what is the speed in the house and where it is located. This AI detail appears below the video clip.

Some AI features – such as describing home automation using Gemini, describing the house, and asking the house – however, google home premium subscriptions are required. It starts at $ 10 per month, but access is incorporated without any additional fees with Google AI Pro and Ultra Subscription.

On the automation tab of the Google Home App, the users will not only see their automation list, but also what is going to happen in the next few hours in the house through a new carvoter on top of the screen.

The tab, first an embedded web scene, is still originally designed for better performance in iOS and Android, Google notes. The automation editor is re -designed, allowing the editor for new options for conditional automation.

Gemini also allows users to achieve insight about their home, such as details about their energy use. You can ask about those things such as how long the AC lasted last week, or in addition to other things, how long the TV was used in the weekend.

The Google Home 4.0 app update will begin to roll for global users on 1 October and will continue in the coming days until it reaches all users.

To get the update first, Google states that to open the Google Home app, click your profile icon, then tap on “Home Settings”. Scroll down and select “Early Access” to join the test.
