Dozens of tech products cross my reviewer’s desk every year, but only a select few have enough staying power to remain my everyday staples. Last year’s AAWireless Two was one of those rare items, and it somehow got better in two ways.
For one, AAWireless has launched the long-awaited successor to the Wireless Android Auto Adapter, named two plusAlthough it’s designed similarly to the previous model, meaning it’s still a plug-and-play affair, you can now use the device to run Apple’s CarPlay operating system wirelessly, So, instead of connecting your iPhone to an old vehicle to run an iOS-based platform, you can simply connect it with a dongle,

The whole process works magically, including the ability to switch between Android Auto and CarPlay at the press of a button. For families with varying phone brands, tech enthusiasts who swear by the duo-phone lifestyle, and users who just want a reliable, functional, and reasonably priced wireless car adapter, I’ve settled on this – and recommend you do too. here’s why.
If you read my review of the AAWireless Two from last year, it should be no surprise that I still use it every day in my car (Mazda CX-5). Since installing the adapter last October, which involved plugging the device into my car’s USB-A port, long-pressing the multifunctional button to initiate Bluetooth pairing, and confirming pairing with my phone, the AWireless Two has been in my center console all season long.
The only hiccup occurred when I was reviewing a new iPhone and found I was tapping into CarPlay more often than Android Auto, which required a wired connection since my Mazda didn’t support wireless.
That was until a month ago, when I replaced the AWireless Two with the Two Plus, eliminating the need to dig out the USB-C cable and struggle to plug it into my phone on the dark days of year’s end. Now, I simply start my car’s engine, wait five to eight seconds for the dongle to respond and for my phone to pair, and voila: wireless automotive software goodness.

While I can only confirm the stability and reliability of wireless pairing with my 2023 CX-5, I also recently used the dongle on a weekend road trip with an older 2019 Audi Q5. Except for one time, when long pressing the multifunctional button showed no pairing indicator (a pulsating light ring around the button), I had no problems connecting my iPhone or Android to the car. Your mileage may vary.
I’ve actually found that the AWireless Two Plus often works overtime, as it will maintain a local Wi-Fi connection even after you turn off the car and walk away. The idle state only lasts a few seconds, so there’s nothing to worry about. However, I often notice the “Pairing in Process” notification and second guess whether I’ve turned off my car.
Both the AAWireless Two and Two Plus share a similar app interface with customizable settings.

I will add that the Bluetooth connection is strong enough to trigger my Spotify playlist (set to autoplay when paired with the car) even when I’m indoors and have only started the vehicle to warm it up. My only complaint with this behavior is that podcasts or other audio shows may start playing without you realizing it.
To get the most out of your AWireless Two Plus, you’ll want to dial in the companion app. Within Settings, you can make finer adjustments, like adjusting the DPI, enabling split-screen mode, and setting pairing priority ranges for multiple connected devices.

This setup is helpful if you enter the car with a companion or family member. For example, the adapter always connects to my Android phone first, but automatically switches to my iPhone if Android is not present.
Like the previous model, you can still access diagnostic and troubleshooting tools from the mobile app, including the option to toggle pass-through mode for data transfer, fix audio stutter, disable TTS sync for routing navigation audio, and more.
ZDNET’s shopping advice
Ultimately, AAWireless Two Plus It does what it’s advertised to do, and it does it well. I still highly recommend the old (and now cheap) aawireless two Only for Android users, as it does almost everything the same, except not supporting Apple CarPlay. However, for iPhone users or those looking to change operating systems, the Two Plus is the new best option.
At $65, the AWireless Two Plus isn’t necessarily the cheapest auto adapter. A quick search of Amazon reveals listings that hover around the $40-$50 range, and reviews seem promising. But I suspect those alternatives have the same functionality, software support, and in-app tools as AWireless, which is why it’s the adapter I’d recommend for most people going into the new year.
