Haley Vadenbam, now with her husband Adam Vedenbam co-founder with Window-Covering Company EverhemIt started in 2011 in the interior design. She enrolled in a certification program on the subject through UCLA’s extension program, and after a year and a half, she was ready to take business.

When Haley discovered homepolish, home-design startups that were associated with interior designers with customers. Haley worked as an interior designer with homepolish for about six years. Company, which Funding in 2016 raised $ 20 millionAfter closing in 2019, it was disclosed that it went out of capital.

Haley’s experience with homepolish first saw her what can happen when a startup grows very fast. This work also helped him to lay the foundation for Adam, so that he could launch an internal-design business of his own-using a slow-and-stable approach to do it.

“At that time, the window treatment was the hardest part of my job,” Haley tells entrepreneur“I could not find the right company to execute my designed designs. The quality was not very good. Customer service in all the companies I tried was really poor. I just wanted to improve it. I have always been my favorite thing to offer extraordinary, memorable experiences as an interior designer.”

Related: The couple started a side hustle to improve a ‘many made’ bathrooms. Now the business earns more than $ 3 million per year.

Adam, a graphic designer with a professional background in finance, was an ideal co-founder to help the vision make a reality. When Haley approached her about her idea for Everhem, Adam was working in a digital media agency where she focused on branding – and he was ready for a change.

“I knew not to doubt Haley at that time,” Adam says. “When she comes with something, it is usually going to happen. So I said,” Sure, let’s do it. ” “Adam learned that he could do about window treatment, manufacture the company’s economic model and got to work on the brand identity. The most important first stages were coming up with the name of his new business.

“We wanted to come up with a name that did not especially focus on window treatment from per copa, because we did not know what the future of the business could be,” Adam recalls. “Maybe we will find another vertical or many other verticals. And then if we are pigeons to do something with windows, it is not understood to people.”

“It was this double entry. It is Swedish for the house, and all our products are being sewed by hand.”

After watching an episode of the couple began to change the wheels Abstract: Art of DesignA Netflix documentary about Creative, showing British interior designer Ilse Crawford. Shortly before starting the business, Vadenbams traveled to Stockholm, Sweden, where they stayed at the ETT Hem Hotel, designed by Crawford.

“We were very inspired by this,” says Adam. “(This) was completely our vibe. We learned that ‘Hem’ is originally a Swedish word for ‘home,’ (and), we have always felt a relationship with hij movements, coznes.

Everhem’s typefase also takes inspiration from Crawford – it is the same typefase used for the title of the designer’s book, A frame for life. It is also called “Tarzana”, which is the name of the city where Haley grew up. This was a “full-cycle” moment, calling co-founder.

“We wanted to bring the user experience online and raise it.”

Weidenbaums wereware of taking the outside capital from the beginning. In those early days, he used his savings to self-fund the enterprise. Most of the money went to create a website and get inventory. Emblazing the slow-and-stable mentality, co-founders did not expect a “huge bounce” at the official August 2019 launch. The first biological order and the month of sales were “pranlar”.

Haley says, “We have entered an industry that has been for decades and decades,” so we were not really trying to reinforce the wheel (in terms of what everyone was doing) (with) the custom window treatment. But we wanted to change the format of customer service. We wanted to bring the user experience online and raise it. “Because it was a big issue.”

Nevertheless, Vadenbums were cautious; In fact, how much business they have on their hands were not ready to pitch investors.

During her time in homepolish, Haley saw how an injection of external capital could fundamentally change the operation of a business – and not necessarily for better. Homepolish tried to control the businesses of a lot of interior designers to earn money and meet the ambitious expectations of investors, notes Vadenbams.

“Our caution has always been with investors,” explains Adam, we do not want to control the company’s destiny very quickly and take the risk of ruining it. ” “It seemed like a clever decision, at least in the beginning, let it slow down, let it slow down and see where it goes.”

Related: After losing $ $ 5 million overnight at the age of 25, he started a business on the track for $ 50 million. Here is ‘Lightbull Moment’ that has done so.

The conservative approach to development also increased to hiring the company. In the early 2020, in the launch a few months, the co-founder was still doing everything. At that time, Vadenbams had a child and twins on the way, so they knew that it was only some time ago, before they would need to bring additional help. The couple hired their first team member a few weeks before the epidemic lockdown.

“Of course, for the period of time (during the epidemic), everything is essentially closed (and we) cannot make anything,” Adam says. “(We) was originally bleeding capital. But we offered 30% -35% discount on the board. Now order our order; we will complete it when we can. And it actually worked.”

Like many household businesses, Everhem saw an increase in demand between lockdown, in which more people were eager to improve their living and their living places. Then a part of organic impressive participation came, which also helped to increase the commercial level. Everhem did not initiate its paid marketing strategy until 2021.

Related: He spent $ 1,000 to start a business in his apartment. The revenue now spikes each spring – this year on a track of over $ 50 million.

Today, Everhem is a multimilian-dollar brand with a “small but powerful team” that helps it to maintain its stable development trajectory. Renting – and ensuring that new members of the team are correct fit – remain one of the most important and challenging objectives of the company.

Adam explains, “You never know if you rent someone, they are going to work or not.” “We have been very lucky with some people who have become (necessary). I don’t think business will run without them. But we also have a part of hiccups.”

“We are here to change the perception of window treatment.”

Moving forward in 2025, co-founders are excited for continuous development and upcoming support of Evehem.

“It is our big goal to collaborate with designers,” Haley explains. “This allows us to always be within the scope of interior design, which makes it clear to our consumer base, which is at the forefront of every decision we made. We are here to change the perception of window treatment. It can be complex and confused, but it is an important aspect of internal design, and many people do not realize it.”

Everhem launched her matchstick shades product with Annie Mayors-Shire, which runs an Instagram account This oak houseThe company recently announced a partnership to offer special clothes and patterns with artist Carley Kuh.

Related: I bought a business that was making $ 5,000 a month. Then I used this 2-step process to hit $ 100,000 monthly in 2 years.

Co-founders have learned a lot in the years spent in the construction of Eveheme, and one of their top pieces for entrepreneurs expecting entrepreneurs expecting to start their own businesses is straightforward, but required: Revenue does not see day-to-day look at day to day-or even in the month of month.

“It can drive you crazy, especially when the economy is in flow,” Adam says.

Haley also emphasized the importance of believing in your vision. “If you have the idea of launching a company or the product you want to launch in the company you have already installed, try it,” called Haley. “Do this in a way that reduces the risk as much as possible, but go with your intestine and do not doubt yourself.”
