Since it was launched about 20 years ago, Speedtest.net is one of the most popular devices used to measure internet speed. However, Dog Sutals, founder and former CEO of the Network Testing Company Ocla’s behind the speedtest, felt that just the measuring speed was not enough to tell people that they wanted to know about their internet connection.

So suttles are now launching a new tool Circle This measures delay, packet loss, nervousness and speed to measure how stable your internet connection is.

Satells, who started the Orb with OCla execution Jamie Steven in 2023, said that Speedtest.net was the right tool for its time, but as the internet pace was reduced by an issue worldwide, he realized that people needed new, more composite methods to assess their internet connections.

“Speed tests are like dipstick in your car, which will tell you that after your car broke you, you ran out of the oil. We wanted to make a dashboard to tell you that you are less on oil, so you can fix that problem,” Suttles told Techcrunch on a call.

The ORB checks the network connection for three major variables: accountability, which is measured by a combination of gaps, nervous, delay and packet loss; Reliability, which measures accountability over time and packet loss over time; And speed, which is your normal download and upload speed. All these variables can be measured at different time intervals – one minute, five minutes, one hour and 24 hours.

By combining all three variables, the tool gives you a score to tell you how stable your network connection is. An orb score above 80 indicates a good connection; 70–80 means you have a fine relationship; And if you find anything below it, then you may have noticeable problems.

If your score is less than 80, the application suggests that you can take steps to improve the performance of the network. Startup says it uses LLM to show the details of major issues and suggestions related to solving those people.

The ORB has apps for various platforms including iOS, Android, Macos, Windows and Linux. The company also offers a guide to install equipment on Raspberry Pie, Onwrt, Docker, Steam Deck, Prox Max, Wlan Pi, old smartphones and other platforms, who want to monitor their connection more often.

Startup is also working on a feature that will allow users to set an offer and share it with someone else to get your connection monitoring. If the quality of the connection decreases, both users will receive information.

The orb is currently free to use, and the company wants to keep it in this way. Suttles said they would prefer to license enterprises and ISPS to monitor and identify network issues with advanced alerts and analytics.

The startup has so far raised $ 3.8 million in funding from Sidekic Ventures, as well as individual investors, which include fast senior director Edward Bender; Netflix engineer Jana Iyngar; Tom Dali, CEO of Big Network; Former head of streaming, Lee Chain; Oculus Studios, head of Jason Kay’s strategy and operation; Jason Rubin, former chairman of ThQ and founder of mischievous dog; And the head of the strategic initiative of Wetro, Cooper Will.

Steven, who also worked on creating a down detector, said that the aim is to create dishes for various services, which help you find out if you can access a particular site, such as Zoom, Netflix, X or Google Drive, to check what services are working.
