Eve recently updated its smart wall switch with a matter compatibility and a dimming function. Also, once it is installed, the setup with your favorite smart home platform takes seconds, not minutes.

    Pros and cons

    • Easy install with simple-to-follow instructions
    • The case enables compatibility with all major smart home platforms
    • 1- and 3-way installs in both lighting setup
    • The entire face of the switch is a touch target to turn it on and off, causing contingency trigger easier
    • The case QR sticker is on a single-gang wall plate, meaning that if you install it in a multi-gang box, the sticker is not available on the switch and stays with instructions

    Case support really matters here

All platforms are shown in favor of the box of Eve Demmer Switch which is compatible with it.

Eve is killing the ground running on the case-supported equipment here. This smart switch was released back in February, and is in the headlines with its support for both thread and matter.

This is really super important for my setup. While I run my entire smart home mainly with Homkit, Matter allows me to move equipment between Homcomit and any other service that I want to use.

With matter matters in the tow, the Eve Demmer Switch can pair with Apple Home (like I use it), Samsung Smartathings, Alexa and Google Home. This means that you will be able to use a smart switch, no matter what smart home platform is your priority.

With the case, I just had to scan the QR code included with my iPhone camera using the Apple Home app and it was ready for use in less than 30 seconds. It was one of the most painless pairing that I have done with Apple Home App in the long run.

The EVE app is showing some more advanced configuration options for EVE dimber switch.

    Patrick Campnell / How-to Geek

Some configuration options are available in the home app, such as automation, brightness level and other similar functions. However, if you want to fix the light, you will need an Eve app.

Inside the Eve app, you can change what kind of light bulb is using (this is important for dimming capabilities), your dimming threshold, which is using which thread/matter transmit power, and even the situation LED. In fact, I stopped the situation because I found it distracted.

Once you fix everything in the EVE app, however, you really do not have to travel again again. I control all my control of the switch using Homcomit, home app, automation, or using Siri.

    Unilateral wiring

Eva dimer shows all the wires behind the switch, including passenger wires used in the 3-way install.

    Patrick Campnell / How-to Geek

I have installed a lot of smart switches. In fact, when I installed the Eve Demmer Switch, I also deployed another four smart switch at various places throughout my home at the same time. I am very comfortable with electrical wires, so the installation was very straight for me.

However, before you go to install this switch, make sure you are comfortable to deal with electrical wiring. You will need to turn off the power on the circuit breaker in your home, verify that the power is off, and then handle all the wiring with such a switch. If it makes you uncomfortable, consider hiring a professional to install this switch.

For me, the installation took a total of 15 to 20 minutes because I had to find out which wire line input was in my box. This was not as clear in my setup because I established the Eve Demper Switch in a three-way configuration.

Yes, this switch supports three-way light setup. It also supports traditional one-way lighting setup. If you do not know what is the difference between the two, then there are two light switches in a three-way setup, and only one switch in one-way.

Eve -dimmer switch is actually very unique in this regard. Usually, you will need two smart switches to change three-way light to be smart. In this way I have always done it in the past. However, Eve does not need it.

Instead, you leave a traditional switch in the secondary installation position and change the primary switch with only Eve Demper switch. This makes it extremely versatile, and it is also easy because you only have to wire a switch again to work.

Now, that secondary switch is originally needed to be “on” to the Eve -dimmer switch to function properly – at least, it requires it for my setup in this way. However this is fine, because the second switch is hidden behind a hanging pot on the wall and was never used anyway.

Eve -demear switch works in this configuration as a passenger wire is available to use it. I used the traveler wire in my three-way setup, but in one-way setup you will only make the blue traveler wire wire and the switch will normally work.

I fully love that Eve Demmer Switch works in this way. The color-coded wires made it simple to connect it, and the ability to place it in a 3-way setup was opened where I was able to install it in my home.

If you install it in a gang box, the Eve includes a wall plate and cover that fit the beauty of the switch. However, if your installation is in a multi-gang box, such as mine, then standard decora/decorator plates fit it and it still looks great.

If you do not use the wall plate involved, one thing to note is that the switch does not matter. Eve has also placed the QR code on the wall plate as well as installation instructions, so if you do not have installed with a stock plate, you will need to handle both. I want it to peel the sticker so that I could put it on the plug.

    I wish this switch clicked

The Eve Demmer switchs from the front sitting on a wooden shelf.

    Patrick Campnell / How-to Geek

I have used a lot of smart switches, and with most I have experience that some type of button press has to turn light on or off. If the switch has a tactile-sensitive part, it is usually a very small touch target for a dimmer control or electricity or closed.

Eve dimber switch, however, is not like this. The entire front face is touch target. From top to bottom, the left to right is the on/off function of this switch, which is outside the small physical button for the dimber.

This means that Eve Dimmer switch is mature to casual trigger. Where I installed the switch, I do not remove many casual triggers. However, if it was at one place in my house, which had the ability to brush against the switch, I could definitely see it on and off from an accident.

This is something that I really want Eve would have improved. Why make the entire face a touch target for power? To at least at least, click the switch down to turn it on or off and make the touch target a dimber. As it is, it is very difficult to click on the bright up and bottom button, I think, while the power function is extremely easy to hit – very easy.

This is actually a big complaint with me with the switch. The light is very easy to turn on and off. I never thought that I would complain about it that it is very easy to toggle a light, but this switch has this problem, and it would be very easy to solve it during production for Eve.

Should you buy Eva Dimmer Switch?

    Patrick Campnell / How-to Geek

If you already have a case-atom hub, and you need a switch that can handle both one and three-way installed, then I really feel that Eve Dimber Switch is a great purchase. At $ 50, it is correct with other homkit-component dimber switch, but only one needs to switch the same switch instead of two.

I also like how versatile it is and how it works with Apple Home, Smartathings, Alexa and Google Home. It all connects it to create a universally compatible smart dimber.

However, if you do not require the ability to use the switch in a three-way environment, there are definitely smart demeres for very little money.
