The legal battle between the epic and Apple is finally over, and the Fortnite publisher is preparing for a “peace proposal”, with a lot of things in favor of the publisher, which will return to Battle Royal at the iOS app store worldwide. But the epic has still found at least one more swipe in Apple in the store before all said and done.
“In June 2025, we are releasing a new feature that is capable of launching developers hosting our own webshop host by Epic Games Store,” Epek says Announcement“These webshop players can offer out-of-app purchases, as a more cost-effective option for in-app shopping, where Apple, Google and others charge excessive fees.”
Platform holders like Apple made a huge cut of purchases made at their store, and Epic kicked a year long disturbance on it. Apple is now obliged to allow both of them to pointing to external payment platforms on the web, and have been stopped from cutting out external purchases.
“With new legal decisions,” epic continues, “developers will be able to send players from webshops on any platform to send players from sports, which allows it, including iOS in the European Union and the United States.”
Of course, Epic itself is a platform holder who charge its percentage for sports and applications sold through his store, although it has created a point of offering more developer-friendly terms than many other storefronts. The company made the deal even more sweet as part of today’s announcement.
“Starting in June 2025, we process for any epic game store payment, developers will pay 0% revenue stake in their first $ 1,000,000 per app per year, and then our regular 88%/12% revenue share when they earn more than that.”
This is great for developers, but historically the epic has a difficult time to assure the last users that its platform is worth investing. Does this change happen because the doors start opening on iOS.
