We had strong indicators for some time that Apple is using Apple in-ear in the form of intelligence with cameras. And according to a new report, Apple plans to place cameras in airpods soon as 2027. It will also add a small camera to the Apple Watch in 2027, and will launch its first camera-equipped smart glass.
It is according to Bloomberg Mark gurmanBut another report shows that cameras may not have cameras as you can imagine them: Last year, respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple was targeting to place infrared cameras in the airpode by the end of 2026.
They will be able to see camera gestures, which can then be used to control app or system features. It is possible that Gurman and Kuo are describing the same buds.
Which airpods are going to come with cameras?
Here is a puzzle: If this year on Apple’s track to release the AirPods Pro 3 of Apple, which we are expecting and have long rumors, then the 2027 Airpods seem to be very early for another repetition of the Pro: First-Jean 2019 to 2022, and the second generation is expected to run till 2025.
So on that basis, Airpods Pro 4 due to not being until the end of 2028 – Gurman’s reported camera timeline shortly after.
It is not very likely that Apple has placed such a premium new feature in a minimum-and-primium airpods, so if we assume that AirPods Pro 4 will not come before normal. This leaves us with two options: Airpods Max 2, or another premium type Airpods Pro – AirPods Ultra, Anyone?
I am betting against the cameras coming in AirPods Max, as so far all the reporting cameras on cameras have been about earbuds, and they sell better than Airpods Max.
But adding another tier to the AirPods range so far will spin the late Steve Jobs: Instead of his favorite lineup of three – good, better, best – It can mean five different tastes of airpod: standard airpods, standard airpods, airpods with AIRPods, AirPods Pro 3, AIRPODS MAX and AIRPODS Ultra. It does not seem to be very punished.
But perhaps the date of 2027 is closed, or some other turns. In any case, we will have some time to wait and find out.
