With iOS 26, live activities come on the carplay. These pop-ups allow you to place a tab on a significant update without feeding your phone or head unit. Live activities on your iPhone are useful to track delivery, flight conditions and more, and while all iOS use cases will not be relevant here, some of which will also be available in Carplay. (I think the facility of flight situation will be particularly useful for airport pickup and drop-off.)
You do not need to do anything to see live activities in the carplay. As long as it appears on your iPhone, it will appear on the carplay dashboard, or as a popover on top of other apps such as your navigation app. Apple says If you do not want to see them, you can disable live activities, and even control their appearance by setting different focus mode.
Carplay is also adding support for widgets, including things such as calendar entries, weather and sunrise/sunset time. You will be able to choose Settings> General> CarPlay on iPhoneSelect your vehicle, and choose a widget.
A new compact scene for upcoming call

Revoged carplays with iOS 26 now include a compact scene. For example, when you receive a phone call, it will appear as a small pop-up on the screen rather than taking more space. This means other important information, such as driving instructions, are not hidden when you receive a phone call.

With iOS 26, the message app in CarPlay will allow you to use tapback -at -theapp parlance to react to text messages with emozis. This will let you tap an emoji quickly to respond to someone through the performance of the car. The message will also allow you to see the conversations of your iPhone, which makes it easier to read people with whom you are often in contact.
Brand new icons

Better access facilities
Carplay with iOS 26 will also support large text, which increases font sizes and makes the text easier to read on the screen of your car. Apple is also adding sound recognition to the carplay, which will inform drivers and passengers when iOS detects some sounds. Notifications may warn you when carplay sirens, a weeping child, horn, or other important sounds detect.
