AMD Radeon RX 9070: Two-minute review

AMD Radeon RX 9070 is a card that can currently be saved by economic chaos associated with GPU market.

With ‘general’ price inflation with every existing-jewelery GPU, the price offer for RX 9070 can actually make it an attractive pick for gamers, who are experiencing stickers shock looking for the best graphics card for their next GPU upgrade.

This does not mean, unfortunately, that AMD RX 9070 is going to be one of the best cheap graphics cards, even compared to whatever has been launched since the end of 2024.

    You may like

And, with a shortage of AMD reference cards, who has helped anchor the price of RX 9070 in Team Red’s MSRP, you are going too much on the mercy of third-party manufacturers and retailers who can charge whatever you want for this card.

Comparatively, however, even with price inflation, it is going to be one of the cheap midrange GPU of this generation, so if you are looking at a bunch of different GPU, then without question it is likely to be the cheapest graphics card by an AMD or NVidia (yes, even many people are counted.

Does this make this card worth purchasing? Well, it depends on what you are being asked to pay for it. Although it is possible to find RX 9070 cards in MSRP, they are rare, so to see if this card is going to provide you the best value in your special circumstances, a back-off-the-lifilope has to be calculated to see it.

I am completely convinced that this will happen. Did I have time to review this card when it was first launched in March, I would have reduced this based on the performance and price proximity of Beefier AMD Radon RX 9070.T.

Looking at both those cards based on your MSRPS, there is no question that RX 9070 XT is a much better graphics card, so I have recommended you to spend additional cash to get this card.

Unfortunately, unlike my hopes, the RX 9070 XT is almost scared as the best Nvidia graphics card of this generation, so that the relatively low price difference on paper can be large enough in behavior.

Given that reality, for most gamers, RX 9070 is the best 1440p graphics card, and even you can get some solid 4K gaming performance, as much as you are likely to compete with RX 9070 XT or Nvidia cards, even from previous generations.

If you are looking at this card and the market has returned to Sanity and MSRP pricing, then surely consider going to RX 9070 XT instead of this card. But except for the happy contingency, where everything with the GPU market is right now, the RX 9070 is the best AMD graphics card for gaming, and your (inflation) deer offers some best explosions as you are likely to find today.

AMD Radeon RX 9070: Price and Availability

An AMD Radeon RX 9070 is sitting on his retail packaging with his fans

(Image Credit: Future / John Lofler)
    • How much is it? MSRP is $ 549 / £ 529.99 / AU $ 1,229, but the retail price is likely to be higher
    • When can you get it? RX 9070 is now available
    • Where is it available? RX 9070 is available in the US, UK and Australia

AMD Radeon RX 9070 is now available for MSRP of $ 549 / £ 529.99 / AU $ 1,229 in US, UK and Australia, but the price you will pay for this card from third-party partners and retailers will probably be more.

While giving this credit, where it is payable, the RX 9070 AMD Radeon is the same MSRP, which you can argue that RX is replaced by 9070. This is coming at the same price at the same price as the MSRP of RTX 5070, and as I will get a little bit for gaming performance, RX offers a better price in 9070 MSRP.

Given how RTX 5070 can rarely be found in MSRP, RX 9070 is even more stronger than its competition.

The AMD RX 9070 is built on the new RDNA 4 architecture using the TSMC’s N4P process node (interestingly, instead of a monolithic GPU dying, instead of the MCM design of RDNA 3), so even though in RX 9070, there are less compute only than 6NM/5NM RX 7900 in RX 9070.

The 56 compute units include 64 shades, a ray tracing processor, and two AI processors each, giving RX 9070 a total of 3,584 shades, 56 ray accelerator and 112 AI accelerator. When I will perform slightly in the actual performance of this hardware according to my test, the AMD Ray Accelerator is finally caught with the RT core of Nvidia.

The RX 9070 also sports the 16GB GDDR6 Vram on the 256-bit memory bus, which is more than 4K enough for 4K gaming keeping the price of RX 9070 low.

Finally, the RX 9070 uses 16 pcie 5.0 lane, so if you have received PCIE 5.0 SSD, make sure that your motherboard has enough PCIE 5.0 lanes to support both components on your full bandwidth, otherwise your SSD performance may come back to use PCIE 4.0.

    AMD Radeon RX 9070: Design

    • No AMD reference card
    • SFF will be good for cases

In terms of design, RX 9070 does not have a reference card, so the card I reviewed is Neelam Pulse Radeon RX 9070.

This card is quite straightforward with some frills, especially, but for those who do not want the fully light of RGB light in their PC, it is more positive than a negative. However, RGB fans will have to see other AMD partner cards for their fix.

The card is a lower dual-fan design compared to the long triple-fan RX 9070 XT card. This makes RX 9070 a great option for small form factor PC cases.

    AMD Radeon RX 9070: Performance

    • About 13% slows up of RX 9070 xt
    • Dues 1440p gaming performance
    • Decent 4K performance

    A note on my data

The charts shown below provide the most recent data for me for the cards tested for this review. They can change over time as more cards results are added and cards are retired. The ‘average of all the cards tested’ includes the cards not shown in these charts for readability purposes.

When it comes down to performance, RX 9070 is a very strong graphics card overched by some extent its beefier 9070 xt sibling, but toe against RTX 5070 goes to toe-foot finger, where it matters to most users, which is gaming.

On the synthetic side, the RTX 9070 puts some incredibly solid numbers, especially in a pure registration workload such as 3DMark Steel Nomad, defeated RTX 5070 by 13%. In Ray Tracing, 3DMark Speed Ways such as heavy workloads, meanwhile, manage RX 9070 within 95% of the performance of RTX 5070.

As expected, the creative performance of RX 9070 is not able to live with the competitive RTX 5070 of NVIDIA, especially in 3D modeling workloads such as blender. If you are looking for a cheap creative workstation GPU, you want to go for RTX 5070, no question.

But it is not really what this card is. AMD cards are via and through gaming cards, and as you can see above, RX fly to a shock with a midrange card of 9070 nvidia so that the total average of the total average FPS on 1440P (1440P is averaged by 115 FPS averages (72 FPS to 76 FPS to 76 FPS from 76 FPS average/1%).

Similarly, at 4K, two cards are effectively tied, slight 2 FPS gains on RTX 5070 with RX 9070, average (50 FPS to 51 FPS minimum/1%, respectively).

Keeping all this together, one thing in favor of Nvidia RTX 5070 is that it is capable of tieing things with RX 9070, with about 26 less watts under load (284W maximum power draw RTX 5070 of RTX 5070).

This is not the biggest difference, but even 26W additional power may mean that you have the difference between the difference between changing or sticking to your PSU.

Under normal circumstances, I argue that it will swing things in favor of NVidia’s GPU, but the GPU market is hardly normal, and so you really need to see how much you are being asked to pay for any of these cards. There is a possibility, you are going to be able to find RX 9070 for a good bit cheap compared to RTX 5070, and so in the end it is likely to be more value for you.

Neelam Pulse RX 9070 I reviewed, it is quite plain, but for those who hate all the blinking lights, it would be fine, especially in the case of a small look.

    3.5/5

This card goes up to toe with RTX 5070 in 1440p and 4K gaming performance, falling behind NVIDIA card only in terms of creative performance and power consumption.

    4.5 / 5

    final score

If I review this card when launched for the first time, I must have reduced its review, but looking at the prices bloated in the GPU market, this card can be the best price that you will find in the midrange.

    Compete: the Pirate Domator DDR5-6600 (2 x 16GB)
    SSD:
    Samsung 9100 Pro 4TB SSD
PSU: Thermeltech Tafpower PF3 1050W Platinum
    Case: Paxis weightbench

I spent about two weeks with AMD RX 9070, used it after hours for creative work and gaming as my primary workstation GPU.

I used my updated benchmarking process, including using underlying benchmarks like the latest PC Games Black Myth: Vukong, Cyberpank 2077And Civilization vii. I also used industry-standard benchmark tools such as 3DMark for synthetic testing, while using devices such as pugetbench for creators and a blender benchmark for creative workload testing.

I have reviewed more than three dozen graphics cards for Techradar in the last three years, including hundreds of hours dedicated GPU tests, so you can trust that I am giving you a complete picture of the performance of the graphics card in your reviews.
