American senator Synthia Lummis has indicated that some partitions within the US Army are supporting the idea of a national bitcoin reserve to overcome threats from economic wars.
During the Bloomberg interview on 3 June, Lumis Said Some American generals, especially located in Southeast Asia, support the idea of storing BTC as part of a strategic geo -political step.
Lummis said, “We only need to look at the leadership of the current US Army to find support for a strategic bitcoin reserve.”
“Especially there are generals in Southeast Asia, who believe that it is important to have a strategic bitcoin stockpile because we are doing an economic war with China and we have to prepare for a gun and bullets war. But we need both.”
Cointelegraph reached the US Department of Defense for comments, but did not receive any response until the time of publication.
Their comment was during a section about tension between China and the United States as the country has remained at the center of the business wars of Trump administration. Trump’s Tariff initially applied to most American business partners, but the administration later suspended many of them, except for those targeting China. Both nations eventually reached a temporary trade deal, which reduced stress.

Trump has been vocal about making the US a “world capital crypto” in his second term at the White House. “If we don’t do this, China is going to take it and is going to China, or someone else, but most likely China,” he told Bloomberg campaigning in 2024.
China has implemented a comprehensive restriction on crypto activities since 2021, while still betting on blockchain technology such as its central bank Digital currency, Digital Yuan.
Speaking in Bitcoin 2025 on 28 May, US vice -president JD Vance emphasized the geopolitical significance of bitcoin. According to him, the US must maintain its leadership in the Crypto industry to remain competitive in the new digital finance scenario.
