Are portable AC units viable in homes? I tested one that’s 41% off right now

The company’s latest portable air conditioner and heater, the EcoFlow Wave 3, typically costs $1,300 without an add-on battery and $2,299 with a battery. However, the price of Wave 3 dropped due to Prime Day deals $799 for standalone unit And $1,359 for unit with add-on battery,

Plus: The best October Prime Day deals are live now

This smart, portable AC is actually a 3-in-1 system: It acts as an air conditioner, heater, and dehumidifier. It can run when plugged in or on battery power, although you can also charge it from solar panels. This makes it a useful companion for RV users or campers, but it can also be helpful in a pinch during power outages or heatwaves.

In my case, I put it through the ringer during a heat wave this summer, when my central AC was under too much pressure to perform well. There is one room in my house that is not connected to central HVAC, which, unfortunately, is adjacent to my kids’ playroom. The kids are home over the summer holidays and both parents are working from home full time, so I installed the Wave 3 in the playroom to help the little ones stay cool and comfortable.

Read Review: Should you buy a portable AC to cool your home? My verdict after a test this summer

The Wave 3 is not intended to be the most powerful portable AC on the market, as it has a 6,100-BTU cooling capacity and a 6,800-BTU heating capacity. Instead, EcoFlow created the Wave 3 for portable comfort, freedom, and convenience. The unit is smart, allowing it to work with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, so you can control it and see its status from your phone.

While this portable AC fills a supplemental need and can be used in a pinch during heat waves, it is not an emergency appliance. EcoFlow Wave 3 is ideal as a comfort measure – a temporary solution rather than permanent climate control.

At a 41% discount, this deal makes the EcoFlow Wave 3 stand out from competing portable ACs with fewer features, which typically cost between $600 and $900.

    How I evaluated this deal

The Prime Day discount for the EcoFlow Wave 3 is a strong deal right now, bringing the price down $799 for standalone unit And $1,359 for unit with add-on batteryThis discount is ideal for everyday buyers looking for a portable climate system that offers smart controls, off-grid functionality, and year-round usability.

It appears that this deal is a part of Amazon Prime Big Deal Days, also known as October Prime Days, so I expect it to expire when the event ends on October 8th.

While many sales events offer deals for a specific period of time, these deals are often limited-time offers, allowing them to expire at any time.
