You begin to understand why the word “genius” is thrown towards Brian Wilson, and why it sticks.
I jumped on the spot to see Brian Wilson in the fall of 2017, with Beach Boys co-founder Al Jardin and a tremendous backing band, played the entirety of the groundbreaking album track by the track in the Radio City Music Hall. Hearing these songs – The man sitting on the piano was first heard in his head after more than 50 years – was incredible and inspiring. I did not make sure the theater is that in my lifetime I will be able to make something that remains relevant and groundbreaking for half a century, but sure I am not going to stop trying.
