Bhutan will soon allow the use of cryptocurrency in the tourism sector. The country has announced to introduce a crypto payment system that allows users to make crypto payments using benns pay. It aims to encourage tourists with cheap options to dodge the currency exchange rates and boundaries in the acceptance of international cards. Tourism generates a large part of revenue for Bhutan, and the country is now looking to make it more economical for visitors and travelers.
People who plan to travel to Bhutan will now be able to pay crypto for flight tickets, visa fees, stay in hotel, memorial travel, tour guide and street-shopping.
Along with Binenns, DK Bank – Bhutan’s first fully Digital Bank – is also part of the program. The bank has already done more than 100 traders on the ship in Bhutan, who have agreed to accept payment as crypto tokens.
How to use crypto payment while traveling in Bhutan
Passengers using Crypto for payment will have to sign up on the first benns app. Booking tickets and hotels will be similar to regular online booking, for retail purchase, they have to scan the integrated QR code provided by traders.
DK Bank will act as a fully licensed local bank, which will manage crypto settlements on the ground. This will provide instant crypto-to-fight conversion for tourists for more than a hundred tokens including bitcoin and USDC.
An announcement from Benance said, “This partnership creates new economic avenues for the communities of Bhutan, especially small vendors and rural artisans, who may not have access to card terminals or infrastructure of payment before.”
