This new version of deep research sits somewhere between a regular chatgpt discovery and a Chatgpt pro-style in-depth report. These discoveries usually take about five to ten minutes, and give you a report that is one page or two long. In my experience, its report is practical, two-the-point and well research.
How new “lightweight” chat works deep research
Deep Research is different from a regular chatgpt search. Here, Chatgpt will use all its resources, such as its logic model, its thinking ability, its online discovery integration, and a detailed response will bring all this together.
Deep Research will first ask you some clear questions about your prompt, and then start your work. A single deep research query can take anywhere between 5-30 minutes, depending on how complicated you are of a question. How to use deep research in chat

I conducted some tests with deep research tools on the free plan, and I was impressed. The reports of Chatgpt are brief and direct. Comparatively, Google Gemini’s report unnecessarily feels verbose. It is also better to highlight the correct link in the Chatgpt text, something that Gemini hides behind a menu.

To compare, I ran a query in Gemini. Mithun actually generated a long report, most of which were not really useful. I had to scroll all the way to find the spare part number. This is Google, however, it gave me a link to an Indian site that sells the part. Good.
Overall, I found that the deep research tool of Chatgpt is equivalent to the choice of Gemini and Perplexity, and when it comes to direct language and sourcing, it overtakes them.
