    Key takeaways of zdnet

    • Disney is combining the Hulu App and Disney+ App next year.
    • Most of the hulu materials are already available on Disney+, but not all – you still need a Hulu app for now.
    • You will still be able to subscribe to Hulu and Disney+ as standalone services.

If you are an Hulu user, you will change apps soon.

During today Quarterly income result declarationCEO Bob Igar said that the company is “fully integrating Hulu to Disney+,” means the Standalone Hulu app will disappear sometime in 2026. Disney announced plans for a combined Hulu and Disney+ App in 2023, with both plans to unite both by “next year’s march” (2024), but it has not happened.

While most of the Hulu content is already available on the Disney+ app, some are available only in the Hulu app due to license sanctions. Additionally, third-party ad-on content such as Max and Shotime is also available only through the Hulu app, so you still need the current Hulu app for now.

Hulu is not going away as a service. You will still be able to buy a standalone hulu subscription and a standalone disney+ membership, but it is clear that the company is pushing bundles. Disney stated that Hulu + Live TV service will be technically paired with Fobo, but both services will be separate marketing and sold.

In the same call, Disney also announced that it planned to report subscriber numbers (some Netflix has already done). This will also announce when it reaches the number of milestones, but will not provide regular updates.

While switching from one app to another can not seem a big thing, there are some hidden effects for this change. One, some users get a free hulu with thanks to their spotify premium membership. In addition, some users get a Spotified Discount Thanks to having a Hulu account – some of which were grandfather, when Hulu was a free streaming service. It is not clear what will happen to those bundles; I have reached for an explanation.

A new game-centric streaming service included WWE

Disney plans to introduce a new standalone sports streaming service that is available without cable membership. The ESPN streaming service will launch for $ 29.99 per month in August, or $ 35.99 per month if you bundle with Disney+ and Hulu.

ESPN streaming you will get all the ingredients from ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNEVS, ESPNU, and ESPN+, Monday Night Football, Sunday Night Baseball and College Football Printime like Plus Live Content. Any game that airs on ABC (Disney owner ABC) will also be available – 47,000 live events in total. Disney today announced that the service would also stream the WWE premium live events in its entirety, including WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, SummerSlam, Survivor Series, Money in the Bank, and more.
