Among all the miraculous things that can chat, one of my favorite features is activated by a small button, pushed into the corner as far as possible. A small speech bubble -shaped, this is something that I have found myself using more and more.
This facility under consideration is a ‘temporary chat’ of Chatgate. Turn on it, and the conversation you have in this mode will not be seen in your history, it will not use or update the chatgipt memory, and will not be used to train the model. While Openai will keep a copy for security purposes, it is removed after 30 days.
I do not use it every time, and I don’t think it’s something that should be used for every query. Although I cannot help, but it feels that it is an important feature and one I want all chatbots. Here is how to use it and why you should turn it on.
How to use temporary chat
When you boot the chat, it is as simple as clicking a button. You will see a speech bubble in the upper right corner of the screen (both desktop and app).
Click on this button and you will enter the temporary chat. You can have a complete conversation in this mind and it will be in all secret mode. You can stop it by clicking on the button again.
You have to turn it back every time when you start a new thread, so keep it in mind if you like to separate your conversation.
Causes of using temporary chat
Secrecy
By activating this mode, Chatgpt will not save or train on any of your data. For some people, this is not really important; For others, this is one of the worst features of AI.
If you are using chat, you are providing a lot of information about yourself. Mainly, the model is using your data to know how to communicate more naturally and learn about human behavior and preferred responses.
However, you are also giving personal information about yourself which chatgpt’s memory feature will be kept in your log. If you do not like the idea of chat to learn personal details about yourself, then this is the number one reason to use this mode.
good for the environment
There are concerns about the impact of Chatgpt on the environment. If this is something that concerns you, but you still plan to use a chatbot, it is an easy way to reduce your impact with the tool.
Temporary chat is limited how stored data is. This data supports minimalization practices, especially if you are doing it for all your conversations. This reduces the amount of data. Openai needs to be placed on the file and therefore its effect.
Memory is not always good
The memory retention of Chatgpt has come a long way since its original launch. These days, the chatbot can remember the huge streams of information about you, remembering them.
While it can actually be sometimes useful, it can also complicate things. If you want Chatgate to answer something from a new perspective, then you have to make it clear that you do not want you to use your memory, which starts afresh.
Alternatively, with temporary chat mode, Chatgate has nothing. This is not to say that it loses its intelligence, you are still using the latest version of the model, access to the Internet and your huge treasures of training data, as if it has never spoken before you.
This can be helpful if you want to avoid talking to it in a certain way or using prejudice towards a certain perspective. For example, if you are from America, the more global perspective are trying to understand, the temporary mode will remove any regional bias.
Sensitive discussion
There is no need to investigate every conversation. Even if you are a fan of the memory function of the chatgpt and not a strong view on privacy, the temporary chat may be useful for some conversations.
If you are discussing something personal that you don’t want, or analyzing private work documents, this mode can be a useful way to go around that obstacle.
As more people begin to use Chatgpt and its rivals as an emotional sounding board, this feature seems more useful than ever.
Future of chat
In a recent episode of Openai’s new podcast, Nick Turley, head of Chatgpt, said that he had predicted that AI assistants would know users so well that users would know that privacy controls and “away from records” modes would be important.
Such prediction is still a few years away, but it gives a glimpse in the direction that is going to chatbot. For those who are concerned about this, as a possibility, now is a good time to overtake it.
