The agreement is towards the current or pre -users of a Siri device in the US, whose conversation with the voice assistant was captured by Apple or shared with third party due to “unexpected Siri activation”.

If you are in the US and use a Siri-supported device between September 17, 2014 and December 31, 2024, you may be eligible to the share of payment from Apple. In May, a notice approved by the US District Court for the northern district of California was sent to the affected parties. Some ZDNET employees received it with the theme “Lopez Voice Assistant Class Action Settlement”.

After the filing deadline, the court will still have to approve the disposal before the payment starts. The federal court in Okland, California has a final approval hearing for 1 August with US District Jeffrey Jeffrey White.
How much do you stand to collect?
The settlement page currently lists the payment cap of $ 20 per device per device. So if you deposit five different devices, it is a good $ 100. However, the final amount can go up or down depending on the total number of valid claims and the number of Siri devices included. Factoring in attorney fees and other costs, however, is more likely to reduce the final payment per device.
The class-action case filed in 2019 was started by three plaintiffs, who alleged that Apple had programmed to talk to Siri, when no hot words, such as “hey Siri”, was spoken. The plaintiff also claimed that Apple violated his privacy by sharing a recording of conversation with third -party contractors.

In settling this suit last January, Apple has denied any wrongdoing on its share. In response to concerns of trial and privacy, an Apple spokesman shared the following statements with ZDNET this last January:
“Siri has been engineered to protect the user privacy from the beginning. Siri data has never been used to create a marketing profile, and it has never been sold for anyone for any purpose. Apple solved the case to avoid additional litigation so that we could move forward from concerns about the grading of the third party which we had already addressed in 2019.”
