Google is going to make it very easy to do walking.
On 20 May, it will officially launch the native Notebooklm app on both Apple App Store and Google Play Store, and you can register now that they can download them automatically on their devices.
What is notebooklam?
Notebooklm is Google’s AI “Research Assistant” that began as a web browser-based service last year. It is often described as a smart notebook – one where you can dump PDF, article, YouTube link, plain text, Google Docs or Slides, and so on, and then convert the AI to a mini podcast to summarize, answer questions, answers questions, or even to a mini podcast.

The notebooklam is powered by the latest Gemini model. Whatever you ask comes with clear quotes, so you can see what sentences drawn from your sources to AI. It needs to do research for students, professionals and anyone.
What do Notebooklm apps do
Since the notebooklam has been launched, You have to use it in a browserWhich used to work well, but if you lose your internet connection or want true background audio playback, it was limited. The purpose of new iOS and Android mobile apps is to solve both those problems.

They support full offline mode-which means that you can download AI-rendered audio summary later-and they will continue to play in the background, whether you switch to another app or lock your screen. Depending on the screenshot of apps from the app store listing, it seems that they will come up with some other features, some of which are similar to the current mobile website.
- home screen: On the home screen, you will see tabs for recent, shared, title and download, as well as a scrolling list of your notebook. Each notebook tile has a large play button. Tap it to launch “audio observation”.
- audio player: It is a complete-screen mode that shows not only an animated wave, but also allows you to “join the podcast” by jumping to ask for follow-ups or to get clarification from AI sounds.
- New construction: A large floating action button under the screen lets you start a fresh notebook. Just tap it to upload the document, paste the text, add the URL – or use your phone’s share sheet to pull the content from other apps into the notebookl.
- Notebook view: When you open a notebook, a frequent toolbar at the bottom provides you with quick access to sources (where you see your uploaded items), chat (where you chat with AI), and the studios (for settings and use figures).
Google’s screenshots also explain how the app looks on the tablet: A split-screen layout puts AI chat next to your source list, making you like multitasks more like you will do on a laptop.
