Google’s high-power research assistant is getting its app, and Android users are getting their first look.
The notebook, which began last year, is a free AI research assistant (Multimodal is running on the Multimodal Understanding capabilities of Gemini 2.0) that helps you understand any subject better. You can give it many data sources, including PDF files, links of articles, YouTube video links and Google Docs or Slide.

Offering some examples of some use, Google says that you can do such things:
- Upload lecture recording, textbook chapter and research paper to break complex concepts in simple words.
- Upload your own research to outline a polish presentation with major talk points and supporting evidence.
- Upload intelligent notes, market research data and competitive research information to identify current trends, find new product ideas and discover hidden opportunities.
When it was first launched, the tool was exclusive to browsers, but Google has now released it. A standalone android app, Apple App Store Listing The release date of May 20 shows, but the app is available for download Now for Android.
Here is how the tool works.
To start, you will open a new notebook and add your files, links and documents. Once the notebooklam gets your information, you will find a summary back which takes information from all your sources. Everything is quoted in the summary, so you can see where the information comes from.

Then you can take the summary and presented it in style that helps you to learn the best – a written summary, an audio summary, or even a fake podcast session where you hear two hosts about your subject about your subject. You can also interrupt questions or to take the conversation in a new direction, as you are a podcast guest with them. There is a delay of a few seconds, while the hosts accept you and while your question is answered, so it is not at all smooth, but when I tried this feature for myself, it was very fun.
Google warns that Notebooklm is not always going to be right.
