On Monday, a new online “encyclopedia” came to life. GrowWikipedia is the brainchild of Elon Musk and his startup xAI, and the billionaire is promoting it as an allegedly less informed and less biased version of Wikipedia. Musk’s goal? “The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.”

In both format and style, Grow Wikipedia is very similar to Wikipedia, although it is a very basic version. Entries are organized with headings, subheadings, citations, and a list of sources at the end. Each article also claims to have been fact-checked by Grok, XAI’s AI chatbot, although it is unclear what this “fact-checking” involves. It is also not clear how the 885,279 entries, as currently listed on Grow Wikipedia, will be accounted for. home pageAre created and by whom or by whom.

Much of Grow Wikipedia’s content is also suspiciously similar to Wikipedia. In many cases, articles are practically – and sometimes literally – clones of their Wikipedia counterparts. But for entries related to topics that match Musk’s personal worldview, many of the articles take on a notably different tone. Here, Grockpedia suddenly becomes focused on right-wing talking points, factual inaccuracies, criticisms of the mainstream media, and baseless conspiracy theories. At times, Grokipedia is openly racist and transphobic. However, the oysters come through fine. They and their businesses are often painted in a rosy light.

A pattern follows for other entries covering firmly established science. But Vaccines and Autism page, Wikipedia states that “Extensive investigation of vaccines and autism spectrum disorder has shown that there is no link, causal or otherwise, between the two, and vaccine ingredients do not cause autism” and that there is overwhelming “consensus from scientists and medical bodies such as WHO, CDC, and FDA that vaccines are safe”. growpedia is more attentiveIts entry only dismisses the idea that MMR vaccines cause autism, it gives credibility to so-called vaccine-skeptics by calling this idea a “hypothesis” and the only mention of scientific consensus is to say how the recent CDC agreement indicates “continued policy momentum despite opposition from mainstream scientific consensus bodies.” For Covid origin, grokipedia Again fails to accept the consensus and increases suggestions that the virus was engineered, while wikipedia Allegations of genome engineering have been repeatedly described as “misinformation or misrepresentation of scientific evidence”.

Scientific Gross Wikipedia entries read like distorted Wikipedia articles, but more political entries are a disgusting departure

Similarly, Grow Wikipedia’s entry on climate change is another indication that Musk may live in a world with a more mutable concept of reality. As The Verge’s Jay Peters says Green has ignored “the almost unanimous scientific consensus that the climate is warming and that it is caused by human activities” according to Wikipedia, instead highlighting “increased public alarm” caused by the media and advocacy organizations such as Greenpeace.

These scientific Gross Wikipedia entries read like distorted Wikipedia articles, but the more political entries are a disgusting departure. For the Grow Wikipedia entry transgender The term “transgenderism” has been used several times. Meanwhile, Wikipedia, notes The term “has come to be viewed as derogatory.”

Against of wikipedia Entry for whistleblower and former US Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning, who shared classified intelligence information with WikiLeaks in 2010, Grow Wikipedia entry Her life was marked by false names and false genders for a long time.

As spotted On Bluesky, Grokipedia’s entry on caste and intelligence Claims that science shows some races are more intelligent than others – and even lists the so-called IQ scores of different races. Wikipedia entry Meanwhile, the same name suggests that differences in IQ scores cannot be explained by genetics. (Grow Wikipedia writes that “The extent to which genetics contributes to differences between groups remains controversial.”) The policy section of the Grow Wikipedia entry also cites the pseudoscientific journal Mankind QuarterlyKnown for publishing Having to do with “race science” and white nationalism.

While Wikipedia says Attack on US Capitol on January 6 An “attempted self-coup” grokipediaLanguage about “widespread claims of voting irregularities” justified the riot by President Donald Trump supporters, and downplayed the violence by saying that “most” insurrectionists “were carrying no firearms and the infiltration was cleared within hours.” Wikipedia readers will learn about Congress instead. found The riot is part of Trump’s failed, but purposeful, plan to overturn the election.

DOGE is notably absent from Grow Wikipedia… Grow Wikipedia directs users to Shiba Inu internet memes instead

wikipedia describes George Floyd, a black man who was murdered by a white police officer, sparked a wave of nationwide protests against police brutality and racism. But grokipediaFloyd is best known for his criminal record, beginning with a sentence that is difficult to read as anything other than intentionally racist: “George Perry Floyd Jr. (October 14, 1973 – May 25, 2020) was an American man with a lengthy criminal record, including convictions for armed robbery, drug possession, and theft in Texas from 1997 to 2007. Was.” Readers did not learn that Floyd was murdered until the fourth sentence of the Grokepedia entry.

The Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, is notably absent from Grow Wikipedia, which is odd since Elon Musk used to run the short-lived quasi-government agency appointed by President Trump to purportedly eliminate waste in the federal government. (Grow Wikipedia directs users to Shiba Inu internet meme instead.) wikipedia reader Despite DOGE’s own vague government authority, one can learn about DOGE’s role in mass layoffs of federal employees and the dismantling of long-standing federal agencies.

At least one person seems pretty good: Musk. Grow Wikipedia’s entries on them and their businesses look as if an editor took an airbrush to Wikipedia articles. There is no mention of his father’s emerald interests in his Grow Wikipedia BiographyFor example, underestimating one’s family wealth as “relative prosperity”. Meanwhile, Wikipedia, makes Barring quotes, there are three mentions of Page, and his family is described as “wealthy”. It also mentions his grandfather’s pro-Nazi and pro-apartheid views, a detail that is absent on Grokipedia.

Their companies and their products perform better on Grow Wikipedia. Overall, they are quite tall. The article on Tesla’s humanoid robot Optimus is four times longer than its Wikipedia counterpart. Neuralink’s article is triple that, and Tesla’s Cybertruck is almost double that. The language is also more interesting. The entry covering SpaceX makes no mention of Musk’s unsuccessful efforts to obtain technology from Russia and its environmental problems are portrayed in a far more favorable light than Wikipedia. Grossipedia’s Cybertruck page barely mentions safety issues or recalls, instead criticizing the media for being biased against Tesla and focusing on external complaints, while the Optimus page pays little attention to criticism over Musk’s bizarre predictions, timelines, and promotion.
