When Becky Edgren left the role of his leadership in manufacturing, she was not looking for a new beginning; She wanted to create a legacy of a generation. Find the right business
From the beginning, Edgrane was thinking for a long time. He began the discovery of a business to buy and bought a small independent restoration company from approximately a friend.
“I didn’t even know what the restoration was,” says Edgren. “But I knew I wanted something that I can develop in a multi-genered business.”
When the deal fell at the last minute, she kept searching, eventually discovered in 2007. As there was no prior experience in restoration, Edgren recognized that the franchise system offered structure and scalability, which he needed to get up to speed up.
“I had no basic, no industry knowledge,” she says. “Franchising laid me a foundation, and Puroclean gave me a roadmap.”

Construction of 3 years plan
He bought two Puroclean regions in 2008, eventually planned to bring him to three daughters, each of whom had his own career. Together, they planned a three -year plan to do it. His middle daughter first joined as operating manager, then the youngest of her marketing-loving. Eventually, her oldest daughter quit her corporate job to handle accounting.
Together, he has developed a business in a $ 2.5 million-one year operation serving the Denon-Sincinati area with a team of about 20 employees. But running a family business is not without challenges. Edgren says that establishing clear boundaries and defined roles is the key to success – and purity.
“Family business can be either the best thing that occurs anytime or the worst,” she says. “Without determining clear expectations and boundaries, it can wreak havoc.”
The boundaries include a strict prohibition on the matter of work during individual time, despite being 24/7 business despite the restoration. In family ceremonies, the daughter who is on a call may have to take steps to handle the job, but once she returns, the business talk of-lymph.

Change the industry

Initially, Edgren underestimated himself, especially on job sites. She recalls an example at the beginning of her career when she arrived at a mold inspection with her ladder and equipment, which was ready to work. “An elderly couple responded to the door,” she says. “They saw me for someone else.”

If you are considering starting a business with your children, Edgren has some hard work advice: Set roles and expectations quickly and behave them like professionals.
“You have to allow them to make mistakes,” she says. “That’s why they learn. If you try to save them from every failure, you are holding them back – and possibly business too.”
She encourages potential franchisees to create a strong support network outside her family. She says, “You are going to be a bad day, and you need someone who is not emotionally bound by business,” she says. “Whether it is another franchise or a mentor, that may have all differences in the out perspective.”
