Hackers targeted the coinbase’s foreign customer aid agents, using a cash offer to allow them to copy data from the company’s customer aid tool to “Coinbase Monthly Transaction Users’ to copy data for users. Users had to collect a customer list for the scam to hand over their crypto assets through the target social engineering attacks. This is not the first time the coinbase employees are either targeted.

He also tried to get the stage out for $ 20 million, but the coinbase refused to pay. Finally, hackers were able to get away with the following data:

    • Personal information, including names, addresses, phone numbers and emails.

    • Last four digits of social security number saved.

    • Masked bank account number and identifier.

    • Government ID Picture

    • Account data such as balance snapshot and transaction history

    • Internal corporate data, as mentioned above.

The Crypto Exchange clarified that stolen information includes no access to login credentials or 2FA code, private key or customer funds. All coinbase Prime accounts are also untouched.

    How is the coinbase responding?

Responsible agents were “expelled on the spot,” and coinbase would suppress criminal allegations. Meanwhile, the platform has set up a reward fund of $ 20 million for any information for the arrest and punishment of the hackers. It is also working with industry partners and law enforcement to track and recover any lost money.

Will the coinbase return to your crypto if you are scam?

The coinbase is one of the largest and most popular Crypto Exchange, but what happens if you scam on its stage?

If your data was accessed in the breech, you should get an email from no-reply@info.coinbase.com while explaining the situation. The Crypto Exchange will also reimburse you if you were cheated to send money to the attacker in social engineering attack. Its announcement clearly states:

The coinbase will voluntarily reimburse retail customers who accidentally sent money to the scammer as a direct result of the incident before a review to confirm the facts.

The announcement warns scammers to present as coinbase employees, which asks your account password, two-factor authentication (2FA) code, vault or wallet address, or pressurize you to transfer your money to a “safe” wallet. Other recommended best practices include to allow return using Strong 2FA (preferably hardware keys), and lock your account if you suspect that you are scam.
