Google is rolling its biggest smart home overhaul in years. Launching on 1 October is a suit of Mithun Google’s smart home hardware for home and new AI-operated features for software.
The biggest change: Mithun is replacing Google Assistant on all smart speakers of Google, coming back to the original Google Home Speaker. This LLM-operated upgrade, declared in Google I/O, will be available through an early access program, with a comprehensive rollout plan for next year.
On smart speakers, Gemini brings a completely new voice auxiliary that uses and understands the natural language, can explain the context, and pull into more real -time information. You still activate it with Wake words “hey Google”, but the Google assistant has been evicted.
“Mithun for Home is intelligence for your entire home,” Anish Kattukaran, head of the product in Google Home and Nest, told that Ruckus“It’s not just going to change the speakers and the assistant on the display, but it is going to upgrade your cameras and doorbells along with your other equipment, where you interact with the devices, and bring those smart collectively to your entire home.”
With the new Google Home Premium Subscription (East Nest Aware, and start from $ 10 per month), some Nest smart speakers will get Mithun live, Google’s more condensed chatbot. Membership also adds Gemini intelligence features to your Nest camera and video doorbels, with Google announced a new model this week. The Google Home app is also getting a Gemini glow-up, a new chatbot, new automation features and as a new home brief that briefly convey the events of the day. (Read more about all these.)
A smart voice assistant
Mithun for home is a ground-up overlah of Google’s Voice Assistant at home. It provides 10 new sounds, more natural interaction and ability to understand reference, and it can react with greater access to real -time information according to Google.
In a demo Ruckus Participated in the last week, Mithun was asked on which day it seemed better for Barbecue at the end of this week. This replied with information and reference: “Saturday looks like a better day for a barbecue. It will be sunny, with 79 degrees Fahrenheit and no chance of rain.” The current Google assistant responds with the same request: “Sorry, I do not understand.”
Mithun for home is coming in every Google Nest Smart Speaker built in the last decade:
- Google Home
- Google Home Mini
- Google Home Max
- Nest mini
- Nest Audio*
- Nest hub
- Nest Hub Max*
- Nest hub (second gene)*
- Google Home Speaker (Spring 2026 Coming)*
Kattukaran says that Gemini can handle better requests to play media. He said, “Hey Google, can you play the song from the film with Ben Epleck where they are going to an asteroid on a rocket?” And it played “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aarosmith.
Gemini also remembers the reference, “What are the songs? “Like follow -up questions allow? And” Can you list other songs with the same topics? “Without saying the name of the song again. However, you will still need to say” O Google “before every conversation – until you pay for Mithun Live (see below).
Kattukaran says that domestic management works such as calendar, lists, reminders and timer using the natural language, should simplify home life. Gemini is designed to be communal, able to recognize its voice with six people in a house and be able to manage their own accounts.

For smart home users, natural language control should be a large upgradation. You will not need to remember specific naming to close your lights or perform more complex tasks. You will also be able to do chain commands using the natural language. So you can say “turn off the lights, start the rumba, close the blind, and set the heat, and do it all,” tells the kattukaran. Exceptions are also supported now, allowing you to “close the roof light, but leave the lamp.”
At the time of launch, you will not be able to create a new smart home routine by talking to Mithun for a house on a speaker. This allows some Amazon’s Alexa Plus, and it is actually a great feature. Kattukaran says that they plan to bring it to speakers in future.
However, with Google Home Premium Subscription, you will be able to create automation using the natural language in the new home app. The app now allows you to check the status of the device through the home chatbot and sees a daily house of domestic activity a brief summary. You can read more about the facilities of the new app here.
Mithun Live is making a paid appearance
Gemini Live, Google’s greater interactive AI mode is also coming in the company’s newest smart speakers – but only to pay customers. It is included in both levels of Google Home Premium, which starts at $ 10 per month.
Saying this active on speakers, “O Google, let’s chat,” Mithun Live Wake enables the conversation of continuously without repeating the word. You can prevent, interrupt or change mid-discussion, and adapt to AI. We saw a demo of it; You can read more about it here.
For now, Gemini Live cannot take any action or integrate with your smart home, and it will not display information on nest performance in Gemini’s manner. “Live is a purely voice experience,” says Kattukaran. It is also coming only in new smart speakers and displays: Nest Hub Max, Nest Hub 2, Nest Audio and new Google Home speakers coming in 2026.
To use the new Gemini for the house, you have to choose a quick access (it is different from Public preview) In Google Home app under home settings. The service is slowly coming out, and when you are ready for you, you will receive a notification.
