Successfully improve your SD card for fast download speed on steam deck or steamos handheld.
If you have a steam deck, or you have installed steamos on any other brand of handheld like Lenovo Legion Go or Asas Rose Ellie, Painful slow. Such as pre-broadband slow. So what does it give?
While I cannot tell you why this happens, it seems that you and I are not the only ones who have this problem. Fortunately a fix has now been out of different forums for years, and I think it’s time to bring it to light.
This is not your SD card
When I see such a slow SD writing performance, my first doubt is that the card is on the way. It’s okay how one of my SD cards started behaving on my Asus daily Ellie, before the console fully fried the card. Thank you Asus, by the way.

But in this case, I really wiped out my Lenovo Legion Go and replaced the windows with steamos. The SD card was normally working minutes ago, but after improving it on Steamos, the download became so slow that they were originally unusable. Similarly, transfer from internal SSD to SD card should be faster than 100 MB/S, but instead it is a second kiloby, and small bursts of proper speed.
Apparently, something went wrong when Steam forms my SD card, and it is important when it comes to fixing the problem.

Why are SD cards decreasing when they are so amazing?
Tiny device, big storage capacity.
Be prepared to lose your data (it is worth it)
Before we move forward, you should be completely clear on the fact that we are currently going to erase all the data on your SD card. As long as you allow your sev data to be cured, but your game and everything else on that SD card will be toast.
However, if the reform works, you should be able to load those games much faster than before.

Switch to desktop mode
To manually format the SD card to correct performance issues, we have to switch to the desktop mode. It is very easy. Just switch to menu> Power> Desktop.
This will take you to the standard KDE desktop experience for steamos.
If you do not have a mouse connected to your device, you can use the right analog stick to move the mouse pointer. The right trigger does a left-click, and the left trigger does a right-click. You will need both for what comes next.
Open KDE division manager
Using your touchscreen, or imitated mouse control, activate the launcher button on the lower left of the screen and go to the System> KDE division manager.
This will launch the partition manager, which we will improve the card.
Improve the SD card carefully
In the KDR Partition Manager, you will see many equipment listed in the left hand pane. Assuming that your device has only one SD card slot, then must have “MMCBLK0” SD card. Click on it and you will see the details about it in the right hand pane. Double check that the report matches the size that you expect.
The way the Partition Manager works allows us to set a sequence of tasks without changing anything on the actual card until we click “Apply”.
Right-click on the division of SD card into the right hand pane, and then choose “Anamount” from the reference menu.
Next, right-click on the division again, and choose “delete”.
Now right-click on the deleted location where there used to be partition, and choose “new” from the reference menu.
In the pop -up dialog box, open the “file system” dropdown menu and choose “Ext 4”.
Once this happens, click “OK” and then choose “Apply” to the top left of the Partition Manager’s window.
You will see a confirmation pop-up and see if you really want to apply pending operations. Click “Apply Pending Operations”. Once the operation is over, you will see the popup that a new disc is inserted. Click “Mount and Open”.
Now you can get out of everything and go back to the desktop. Double-click on “Gaming mode” icon on “Return” on desktop here.
Go back to steam, and format again
After returning to gaming mode, go back to the storage page via menu> Settings> Storage, then select SD card. You will see a signal to re -form the card. Just press the “y” on your controller and after confirming that you want to move forward, wait for the format to be completed. It depends on how big your SD card is.
If the process was successful, you will see a gold star next to the entry of SD card on the storage page.

Steam deck is heavy and battery-barking: Here’s how I customize it for a trip
Prepare your steam deck for a trip.
Get ready for download speed
Now try to install a game in the SD card, and if all goes well then you should see that it should hit the maximum speed of your connection, or the speed of SD card, whatever is low.
I cannot guarantee that it will help improve your download, but it has been worked on the SD card I tried. The formatting of the card steam causes poor performance, a manual reformat corrects it. I don’t know why, but it worked for me. Hopefully, at some point, the valve will fix it so that the steam simply corrects from the gate-go, but here your own SD card is now burning.
