How to effectively use offline facilities on a chromebook

Are you getting ready to go on holiday and need to do some work on your Chromebook? While Chromeos devices are used to rely too much on an active internet connection, modern Chromebooks actually work quite well now.

Here are some ways by which you can effectively use your chrombook offline.

Working offline with Google Drive

Google Drive works very well in offline mode on Chromebook. Your primary Google account that you log in when set in Chromebook will be available in your files. You can keep some types of documents offline through Google Drive website for other accounts, but it actually works best with your main Google account that is logged in to Chromebook.

You can choose to keep all Google drive files offline, or only the files can choose offline. I only recommend keeping select files offline until your Google Drive is relatively low, so that you can save it from taking all the storage available on your Chromebook.

To do this, right-click on the file or folder in the Google drive section of the file app and choose the available offline. It will download the file and keep it stored only on its Chromebook, only providing it locally instead of being available from far away, allowing you to access it without active internet connection.

Working offline with Google Docs

Google Docs Offline works similar to Google Drive Offline, except that it is all through Google Docs websites. You can visit doors, sheets or slide websites on your Chromebook without an active internet connection.

Any offline document on your Chromebook will be available to use and edit here, as you expect. However, something that is really good, you can make any type of document offline on your Chromebook, and as soon as you join the Internet again, it will sync back to the cloud. The same goes for changes made while offline. Once you join again, they all sink the right back.

Save PDF and images in your files

Within the file app, you can save any other types of files that you want to work outside your Google Drive folder. PDF, pictures, music, movies, you name it, and it can be saved.

Some Chromebooks have microSD slots that you can use to expand your storage, and the outer hard drive or SSD can also be added to the additional storage room. This is really ideal because you can load an external storage drive using another computer (or even Chromebook) to get access to everything when it is offline.

These days, chromebooks can work with almost any file (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint through Google Docs), and this functionality extends to offline. So, if you are uncertain whether your Chromebook works with a file, just try to open it! If you can store it offline, and your Chromebook can open it, it will do a great job.

In 2022, Chromebooks received the official steam app, thanks to the large part of the steam deck. In my opinion, there was a revolution in gaming on Chromos from this single-hand.

With steam, you are able to download any of your games that are compatible with Linux (or who use protons to run). Now, you won’t run the latest AAA title in this way – the most chrombook is just not enough power.

However, if you want to play some old games, run some emulator, or enjoy something on the simple side of gaming, Chromebooks can do that even without internet access. Since steam games are locally installed on your laptop, they can simply walk without Wi-Fi connection.

It all depends on the real game you are playing. Fortnite Or DutyFor example, no multiplayer action will be allowed to occur, but it should be given without internet access.

No matter how you slices it, Chromebook can actually play offline now. You can also play Minecraft on your Chromebook and enjoy the creation of your dream world for your heart content.

Other streaming services can also work to view offline materials. It is going to depend on self -service, and you may have to install an official app from Google Play Store on your Chromebook to see offline to work, but if you are going to travel a road it is worth a try.

Install Linux Apps that work offline

Since most modern chromebooks support installing Linux apps in various ways, you can install and use a bunch of offline apps that will otherwise be unavailable on your Chromebook.
