I am mostly happy with my M1 MacBook Air (2020), which I have been using for almost three years. However, I regret that 16GB is not going for variants with RAM. The base M1 MacBook Air with 8GB RAM is very fast, cooler, and the earlier Intel McBook lasts longer than McBook Air, but the new laptop still still slows down when I open a lot of browser tabs. Fortunately, I solved some troublesome and fixed the problem, and I am here to share what I have learned with you. Therefore, if chrome, firefox, edge, safari or other browser are slowing down on your computer, some of these tips should try to reduce that problem in the bud.
Identify what is recession
This is the most difficult part of a browser recession, because quite often, what is the problem of root, there is no definite answer. This can happen because you have an old and slow computer, or because you have a lot of open tabs that you never close, or because an extension is interfering with something, or a combination of many factors. To reduce the list of potential issues, I recommend the golden rules of troubleshooting: deal with one thing at a time.
This means that you should start except all other apps, just run a browser with a tab, and then see if the recession still exists. If your browser works fine when opening one or two tabs, and slows down after opening several tabs, it may indicate a problem with the browser. If the browser works well, but when you have other apps running, the problem can be with a separate app, or it may have a hardware range.
If, after some troubleshooting, your browser is really an issue, then what can you do to fix it here.
Use your browser’s task manager

Video streaming or web apps can cause browser recession, but the easiest way to confirm it is using the underlying task manager of your browser. Yes, your browser usually has a separate task manager, which lets you see which tabs are causing problems. In firefox, accessing it as simple as suppressed Shift-sizeAlternatively, you can click and go on three lines button in the top-right corner More Equipment> Work ManagerYou can also type about: processes in the address bar to do the same thing.
In chrome (and derivatives like age and brave), you will need to press the three dots button in the top-right corner, then go More Equipment> Work ManagerUnfortunately, Safari does not have an inherent task manager, but you can open the activity monitor app on your MAC and type the safari in the search bar to see the process associated with each open tab and determine which recession is causing.
Opening the task manager of the browser is one thing, but it is also important to know what to see once you open it. The task manager of your browser shows you the CPU and RAM use of each tab, and you can use that information to determine the problem. If a tab is taking too much, stop to see the tab to see if it makes a difference. Usually, it moves.
Close unused tab
This brings me to my next advice: please, just close the tabs you opened five years ago. You are never going to them and you are not losing anything by closing them. This applies as much as it does for someone else, so I will become the first person to accept my sins. I had Personality 5 The game guide opened three years ago, when I played the game for 120-odd hours for the second time. I stopped playing the game, before I reached the right end (second time), but I still had the game guide tab until a few months ago. It was not doing anything or was consuming a lot of resources, but when my browser slowed down, I had to let it go. I have admitted that I will probably never finish the game, or will not read any of the various articles open in my other old tab, or will see any of the videos I want to get. Closing all those inactive tabs helped my browsers at a great speed.
If you are still not ready to let your tab go, you can easily save all the open tabs in chrome, firefox and safari.
Remove unused extensions

I like to use browser extensions to add useful features to my internet experience, but the additional steps they ask for your browser can sometimes cause recession. This is especially good for the extensions you use, and it is good for performing unused and potentially cumbersome extensions to perform (and your privacy, because the extension often requires access to all your open pages). To remove an old extension quickly, open About: Addons Page in Firefox, Chrome: // Extension Page in Chrome and its derivatives, or click Safari Button and navigate in menu bar Settings> Extension,
I have also found some values ββto disable the extension on specific webpages. As someone is suffering from migraine, I rely on dark reader to open every website to open in dark mode. The bright background triggers my headache, which often ruins the whole day, so I need to be careful with the brightness of the screen and how the webpage appears. However, the dark reader was slowing down some tabs, and I found that disabled for those specific webpages helped fix the problem.
Restart the browser (and your computer)
Sometimes, the solution of recession is as simple as a quick restart, which will give defective processes a chance to correct itself. You can try to leave the browser, restart your computer, and launch the browser again whether your problem is fixed or not. It is quite easy to do, but easy to forget the simplest and most obvious solutions, so I thought it is also noticeable here.
Update your browser

The problem is not always your computer, open tab or extension. Sometimes, it can be a bug in the browser’s code, which can cause a memory leaks or use your CPU’s resources too much to run the app. To fix this, you cannot do anything, except that your browser is updated in your latest version. Most browser are usually quite good to update yourself, but if you notice that you are on an old version, you can also update manually.
I will start with my Go-to browsers. To update Firefox in Windows, click and select three lines button in the top-right corner Help> About FirefoxMacch, hit Firefox Button in menu bar and select About firefoxYou can update Chrome (or its derivatives) by selecting three dots buttons, then click Help> About Chrome,
What do you think so far?
To update the safari on your Mac, you have to update the Macos itself. Click on Apple logo in the top-left corner of the screen and go System Settings> General> Software Update,
Reduce advertising and trekking
Advertisements and trackers are growing on almost every website, which goes to increase the page loading time and can cause browser recession. You can combat it using Ublock origin such as Adblocker on Firefox and Chrome, and one of the many good adblockers for safari. You can also consider using VPN with Adblocking built-in or a good DNS service NextdnsEither of these options should reduce how many times the sites are called, and how many trackers and other resource-befers are loaded on webpages, which has a direct impact on the performance (and security) of your browser.
Clean cookies and data

You can also see a display improvement by cleaning cookies and browser data. Keep in mind that by doing this, you will need to log in to your normal websites the next time you go to meet them, and you can also clean the history of your browser. If you are fine with it, you can try it as another option to speed up your browser.
In the firefox, click on the three lines button in the top-right corner Settings> Privacy and SecurityIn Cookies and data Selection, select clear dataβ¦ And when asked, confirm it. After that, go on History Khand and click clear historyβ¦,
In chrome, click on the top-right corner and go to the three-dots button and go Settings> Privacy and Safety> Delete Browsing DataGo to advanced Tab, check all the options you want to clean, and select Remove data,
Go to Safari on your Mac Safari Menu from menu bar and select clear historyβ¦ To remove browsing history. then go to Safari Menu> Settings> Privacy> Manage website dataβ¦Here, you can either choose and remove data from individual websites, or choose all and remove everything.
Check the environment temperature
Environment temperature is increasing worldwide. Especially in summer, you can use your computer in a warm room and experience the recession as a result. Modern computers have a thermal cutoff built-in, and if a device becomes too hot, it will slow down at first, before your machine is completely closed for safety. It is not just going to slow down its browser, though. Whatever you do on your computer will run more slower than normal if it is very hot where you are. You can try to use a laptop cooler, an air conditioner or other methods to cool your computer. After running at low temperatures of the computer, you will see immediate performance improvement.
Consider upgrade your computer
Finally, if none of these solutions are working in a long time, the problem can only be with the hardware you are using. Even cheap upgrades such as changing hard drives with an SSD or adding more RAM can help help, but in a lot of cases, you may want to get a new computer. I am asking anyone to spend more money to solve problems, but sometimes this is really the only option.
Buying my M1 MacBook Air was a concrete decision in 2022, and at that time, even though my friends and family members pasted for help, I could not tolerate the 16GB RAM variant. The next time I buy a computer, I make sure that it has a little more RAM than my requirement, so that the browser recession and other performance issues are not on the surface, at least for the first few years of computer life.
