10 years ago, I bought my first system76 desktop computer. It was a leopard extreme, and it was luxurious. Not only this was the most powerful desktop PC I ever used, but it has a new Linux distribution, pop! _OS operated, which was also built by System76.
Pop! _OS Ubuntu and Ganom were taken a customized on both, and I immediately took it. Pop! _OS was sharp, reliable, easy to use, and (as usual) optimized.
In these years, pop! _OS remained mostly the same. Each release brought a little more polish to the OS, but there was indeed nothing in the way of game-changing features.
So far.

In 2021, System76 introduced the cosmic desktop. I remember that those early buildings and thinking were tested, “They have to go a long way.”
Cosmic (and version of pop version 24.04! _OS) has reached beta position, and it is incredible. Not only the desktop is already very usable, but the fact that System 76 has created this new desktop with scratches, using the war, is impressive in such a short time.
I pop for a few days! I am running the beta version of _OS (with cosmic), and I thought I would share my thoughts.
A small mess for mankind …
I am not going to lie, upgrade from 22.04 to 24.04 beta was not smooth at all. In fact, I was not using a System76 Thelio PC, I would have to do a fresh installation (losing a good part of the data in the process).
After the upgrade, I had to reboot the system. Because my hard drive is encrypted, I expected an encryption password. I did not. Instead, I noticed that there was an error related to inability to reach UUID.
Ruh. Roh.
Fortunately, this is System76. We are dealing with here, so I just had to do so that the reboot was done and the space bar should be held. This little trick took me to the pop! _OS rescue division, where I could do a refresh installation.
That refresh decided everything. Not only I was able to boot and log in, but all my data and adaptation were still.
Wow.
It’s all about cosmic
Once I was able to log back on to the cosmic desktop, everything (mostly) looked exactly the same as the Alpha version. There were some issues with which I had to deal with (mostly that the upgrade was taken away!
Outside him, everything was smooth. Actually, everything was better than smooth. I found that cosmic was better in the theme of non-system applications, which makes for a grand desktop. I would say that my current cosmic desktop is far more exciting than any type of used by me. Secondly I started working with cosmic, I started remembering those old days of using Linux with wide -eyed enthusiasm.
Also: This Linux distribution surprised me with its minimum yet highly functional OS
I found my desktop customized for myself and spending more time and effort that I was in years. Cosmic felt like a new playground, and I had hours to enjoy.
Above her, cosmic is sharp. I have never seen the application so soon. This speed comes from the path of rust, which is a skilled and sharp programming language. I can click on an app launcher and before I can take a nap, the app is open. It goes to the new pop store (which replaces the old and broken pop shop). Click for opening and bam, this is. Also, apps apps quickly, even if you are installing them through APT, SNAP or Flatpak.
Cosmic is also quite stable. Even when using the final alpha release, I found cosmic impressively stable. Sure, there were some glitches, but it should be expected when using alpha software. Now that cosmic is in beta, things are even more solid. I pop on my primary desktop PC! Ever since I first upgraded, I run updates, and OS becomes more stable.
It is also about open-sources
It is one of the beautiful things about open-source software. Updates come regularly and frequently, which you never find in Windows or MacoS. Those updates often include safety patch, bug fixes and new features, and (so far) every pop! _OS update is a improvement.
Open-source operating system can bear such speed of updates. It is not proprietary software that updates very slowly. Open-source software has the advantage of developers around the world working on software, meaning that weaknesses are rapidly patched, bug fixes are made available soon, and new features are regularly higher.

It ever Macos or Windows, and Pop! Alpha to beta with _OS ‘is not going to be.
Remember, this brand-new desktop environment was first released only one year ago, and it is already in public beta. Not only this, but also in beta, it runs better than most of the operating systems I used.
Should you try pop! _OS 24.04 beta?
I would say this: If you can spin a virtual machine or a spare PC lying around, you should definitely pop pop! _OS 24.04 beta should make one attempt. Keep updating the OS, and finally you will air with a stable release.
My guess is that as soon as you give an attempt to the cosmic desktop, you want to make it your Go-to Day.
