I can’t stop admiring this magnetic gadget — here’s why it’s so useful

    Duhesin 240W USB-C Adapter

    ZDNET Highlights

    • These 240W USB-C connectors, which have a MagSafe-type mechanism that makes them safer and more secure than standard connectors, are now available at 30% off at Amazon.
    • They are a must-have for travelers, tech enthusiasts, and those who frequently switch between different cables and ports.
    • Just be careful where you store these connectors, as they are small and easily lost, especially the ends (though you can buy extra connectors).

This might be one of the best USB-C accessories I’ve ever purchased. Although simple and straightforward, it has saved my USB-C port from damage several times and prevented the laptop from being dragged to the floor by people (usually me) tripping on the charging cable.

Plus: We found over 100 of the best Black Friday deals live, up to 75% off from Amazon, Walmart, Target, and more.

this is a Magnetic Breakaway USB-C Connector Similar to Apple’s MagSafe connector, compatible with all your devices, from smartphones and tablets to power banks, docks, and laptops, including MacBooks that lack MagSafe. I have a lot of these connectors, and I use them daily.

The best part is that it does not slow down data transfer or charging. The connector has 24 pins, so every channel on a USB-C cable runs through the connector, resulting in no compromise in data transfer speeds.

I know this because I’ve been testing many of them to find the best and most affordable model for you.

A magnetic breakaway USB-C connector consists of two parts: the first part is the USB-C port that plugs into the device you want to protect – whether it’s a laptop, smartphone, charger, power bank or other device – and the second part goes on the end of the cable you’re going to use.

Also: 5 gadgets I always recommend to hybrid workers (even if they’re not on sale)

Super-strong neodymium magnets hold the two halves together during use until there is a tug on the connector, and then the two halves separate. The magnets are very strong and pull the two parts together with a decisive jerk. It’s a simple idea yet brilliantly designed.

Just a note on the different versions of this product: I’ve tested both the 140W and 240W versions of this connector, and both responded similarly in thermal and resistance tests. This makes sense, as these are just pass-through connectors, with the only active element being the LED light, which leads me to conclude that the 140W versions simply have outdated branding.

I’ve used a similar breakaway USB-C connector before, when Apple removed the MagSafe charging port from the MacBook Pro. Thankfully, things have come a long way since then: these connectors have been redesigned, the design and magnets have been improved, and they’ve been updated with support for features like 140W charging.

These breakaway connectors come in three different types – Straight, 90° elbowAnd right angle,

Personally, I like the elbow design. This seems to be the most versatile and safest. In my testing, I found that straight and right-angle connectors were easier to separate, resulting in more accidental breakaways. Still, I’d much rather deal with an accidentally broken laptop than one dragged on the ground.

The connectors also have a handy LED light so you can see if a device is charging. The part of the connector that goes into the USB-C port can sometimes be a little difficult to remove, especially if, like me, you have bad nails. This pack comes with a loop of string to aid in removal, which I find a really nice touch.

One thing I get asked about a lot is if you can buy extra ends for this adapter, either as a spare part or because they’ve lost the original ends. Good news! You can buy these in one 3-pack for $10,

The good news is that these connectors are cheaper than ever. I remember paying over $20 for a connector, but now you can get one 2-pack for about $20 With a 30% off coupon at Amazon.

They are a simple but effective way to protect ports from damage and prevent the laptop from dragging on the floor. Investing a few dollars in some of these can save you thousands in the long run.
